F55/F56 Week 27 build -- this is your status thread!
Well, here she is. I put 700 miles on over the weekend so it's getting broken in nicely. Some additional thoughts
- I had the same problem as Rich with the navigation not being entered. Thankfully the dealership was able to get me the code later that evening.
- I mentioned paint swirls earlier... Well in my excitement of picking up the car, I didn't notice what appear to be some scratches in the paint. Some straight lines on the bonnet both sides of the bonnet strips and smaller on the roof. I'm hoping that is some kind of remnant from the wraps on the cars while shipping, but I think that is wishful thinking. I also have a couple paint blobs. I'll be back to the dealership either today or tomorrow so they can look.
- Car drives great. I can't wait for the break-in period to be done so I can stretch it out a bit more.
- Interior is fantastic. HUGE upgrade over my R50.
Very frustrating that after four months of waiting I'm already planning to go back in due to the paint issues. The swirling was shocking bad by itself, the scratches made me feel a bit sick.

I finally got to pick up my car on Saturday! I had already told the finance guy when we picked up my wife's car that we weren't interested in any extended warranties, teflon coatings, etc.
He scheduled me for 9am so I showed up as they were opening and signed all of the papers very quickly.
While I was doing the paperwork, they brought my car into the showrooom. The early morning sun was coming straight through the windows and there were swirl marks all over it!! I was NOT happy. I had told the salesguy many times not to wash or detail the cars for fear of this very thing. They had washed my wife's car but it was in great shape when we picked it up and i didn't find any scratches when waxing it last week.
Not only was the car all swirled, but it was filthy! I'm pretty sure they just smeared the dirt around with a wet rag. There were numerous scratches and places where there was still adhesive from the shipping wrap. Also two nice scratches in the center spoke of the steering wheel on the piano black plastic.
They offered to send it back to the detail shop to have it redone. yeah, just what i want is for those same bums that did this work to put a buffer on it and give it some different scratches.
They said they'll swap the steering wheel from a loaner car. Not sure if I like that solution. I might just live with it.
The manager said that HE "paid the detail shop a couple hundred dollars to prep the car". Well for one, HE didn't. They gave MY money to them for a service I didn't want.
I spent most of my weekend removing the adhesive, buffing out the scratches and swirls, and then waxing. It's not perfect yet, but I'm working on it. Got to put a couple hundred miles on it too!
First impressions:
-wow is it quiet in mid mode! i can hear the starter when i push the clutch in, but then i can't even hear it idling. I kept wondering if it was actually gonna move when i pushed the gas. on the highway there isn't much wind noise and you can barely hear the engine even at 2500rpm.
-the clutch is weird. very light and you can't really feel what the engine is doing on the other end. but at the same time it's very easy to drive and i haven't come close to stalling it
-the hill hold is much more transparent than on my VW which would hold the brakes on pretty hard so you were slipping the clutch a ton.
-i don't care if the increased sound in sport mode is "fake", i like it
-the LED headlights are amazing at night! they really light up the road better than anything i've ever had (including my 2010 Miata with Xenon). The DRLs and headlight rings look really nice too!
-i'm really happy with my decision to go with the "satellite gray" door panels. i had never seen them in person or pictures until now but they give it an upscale look in my opinion.

Greg,
Sounds like you and I had a VERY similar experience with the car's condition at delivery. I get that they were rushing to get these out, but what a mess....
You mentioned the adhesive that was left behind. Just curious, did it look like this (see just to the left of the stripe)?

The adhesive that was on mine was gobs on the bottoms of the doors and quarter panels. There was also some rectangular sticker that went from the passenger side of the hatch and onto the quarter panel that left an outline.
i would have been happier to receive the car with the shipping wrap still on and have a clean slate rather than start with these imperfections.
I'll second that! I'm finally going to get a chance to check it out in more detail today so I'll keep hoping it's just leftover adhesives.
While I was picking up Auroris, my dealer actually pointed out to me that there were a few marks on the bonnet stripes (presumably from the shipping wrap sticking to the vinyl?). I told him I will try to get them out first and he told me he would have the stripes replaced if I could not get the marks out. I may have to take him up on that offer. (pics soon)
Other than that the car was prepped rather well, the only things I noticed on the paint were very small areas of wax residue. No swirls or anything that I've been able to notice yet, but I will definitely be posting if anything pops up.
I still have to go back to the dealer later on this week to pick up my new license plates.

Love seeing other motorers receive their new joys, however!
Just got these pics from my MA, still in make-ready. The Union Jack mirror caps haven't been put on yet, and of course, this is pre-graphics. The bonnet and boot stripes are also custom, so I still have to get them done, but that's a different shop.
Our mini coopers are on the same ship. =) I have pictures of the Asian Emperor with our minis going through the Panama Canal if you want. I just happened to be at the computer tracking it as it was going through. PM me with your email address and I'll send them to you if you are interested.
I finally have an estimated delivery date of 10/14/2014 according to the owners lounge; however, the rep on the phone said the 16th. Any ideas as far as why the difference? Anyone lucky as far as getting their 2015's on the same date shown in the owners lounge? Getting excited but it still almost sounds too good to be true.
Well we got my Wife's Mini today! 109 days waiting! Boy we both really like this car. My Wife is thrilled (except for one thing I'll mention below). We only managed to get 30 miles on the car. It drives great, it has just about every bell and whistle, it's quiet, the HK is really nice. Here is a brief rundown on a few things....
- The dealer did a great job of prepping the car. I asked for no 'dealer installed swirl marks' and there doesn't seem to be. It was pouring down rain today during our purchase and after so the car is dirty. Oh well, it was so clean it was just begging it to rain.
- We got the LED lights with Cornering lights. Wow, these are both great. The LED's are better than the Xenon's on my car and way better than the halogens on her old car. They throw a nice white light quiet a ways down the road. Like daylight. The cornering lights are awesome and I'm glad we got them. We were sure but thought what the heck. As you are turning the bottom half of the Fog Lights on that side of the car light up the front/side of the road. The best part is while you are stopped at a stop sign, you just turn the wheel a bit and the right side of the road lights up. Easy to see any pedestrians, animals, road hazards before you make your turn. AWESOME. If you are on the fence on this option get it.
- I managed to get the Homelink programmed tonight. It was not working and the problem was I was following the owners manual. We (like most modern garage door openers) have a rolling code system. Here are the basic steps... 1) hold the left and right buttons down simultaneously for some time until the light flashes quickly. This clears any old codes. 2) take your hand held remote and push the button you want to program. 3) then push the button on the mirror, it will flash briefly and change speeds. 4) go to the opener and hit the 'Learn' button. 5) go back to the car and push the same button on the mirror for a few seconds... 3 sec.. repeat... repeat... until the door moves. You have 30 sec. Repeat for other buttons. Can't put the same code in more than one button. We have 2 doors, I programmed both.
- Now here is a dumb thing. The garage door opener only works when the Engine is ON. Not the Ignition.. the Engine. So you have to start your car IN THE GARAGE to open the door. Wow this is really dumb. Same on closing it. You have to start the door closing then turn off the car. I can't imagine who though this was a good idea. I programmed the door opener while the engine was running, not just the ignition. I don't think that had anything to do with it. On my car I can use the garage opener even with out the key in the car. This is the way it should be. I hope MINI can fix this with a software update. You should never start your car in a closed garage. This is a huge safety issue. Maybe I'll try to program the mirror with the ignition only and see if this makes a difference. I don't expect it to.
- We ordered this 2015 with the LED Fog lights expecting to get the new 'Halo' Fog Lights as shown on the configurator. But we got regular LED fog lights, no Halo. It was the Halo that made us order this option. None of the 2014s (of course it was not on the configurator for 2014) nor any of the other 2015 F56's on the dealer lot have the Halo fog lights. I think they may not have had the parts for early 2015 production but this really pee oh'd my wife. Sure the car has Fog Lights but we wanted the Halo, otherwise we would have saved the $250. The dealer is looking into it.
- Our tires are not Run Flats. We got the optional 17" wheels and the web site says they come with Performance Run-Flats. We have new Michelin Primacy 3 Green X tires. We went to Discount Tire to get a road hazard warranty but they were not in their system. I told him they were run-flats but there are no markings on them. He called Michelin Tech Support and they confirmed they are not RFT. I found them on-line. This is a special tire made for BMW. The web site says they are not RFT. The dealer is going to look into this too. Maybe they are so new they are not yet marked? The dealership tried to tell us we didn't order RFT. I told them there was nothing to order, they came with the upgraded wheels. We'll see. The Michelin's aren't bad, but RFT are more valuable and possibly helpful if my wife gets a flat somewhere.
- The car has a spare. It is tucked up under the car, held by a bolt under the jack kit. Now if you really had to change a tire with that kit good luck! The lug wrench is pretty short and we all know how much torque is on those things. But the biggest problem is that there is NO WRENCH TO LOWER THE TIRE.??? At least not that I saw. The nut is smaller than a lug nut (wouldn't it have been smart to make them the same). So I need to search this out. So if the spare tire kit is worthless it is all the better to have RFT even if they are more expensive and louder. But the 2014 we test drove back in April seemed to ride very well and I assume those were RFT (they were 17").
Sorry for getting wordy. I'm sure we'll work through these issues. Our dealership is pretty good. When I learn about the LED Fogs I may make a new thread. The car is great so far. Hopefully if it is reliable it will be a great car for my Wife.

I used Goo Gone and it worked perfect and easily. The remaining residue came right off.

My 2008 Clubman works exactly the same way. The engine must be running in order to operate the garage door. I always thought it was nuts but you get used to it. I was hoping the new one would have fixed that.

The manual says you should be able to use the garage door with the ignition on, engine off.

First 2 day trip
My wife and I decided to take a bit of a drive up into the Cascades, out into eastern Oregon and loop back. Route went from Myrtle Point, OR to Crater Lake, Ft Klamath, Silver Lake, Burns, Post, Sisters and home. First two tanks yielded 40 mpg which included mainly climbing and spirited driving. Coming back, we filled in Sisters, OR and then filled again in Coquille. Mileage as an amazing 51.6 mpg and I never used the green mode. The car is amazing, continue to love that so usable torque.

I have no idea what they base their estimate on, but I was lucky that mine was close at least. My OL was 10/8 since early August. Then at the beginning of October it changed to 10/5. The car actually came in on 10/7, but the OL was back to 10/8.
Mine was 10/05, then changed to 10/09, then randomly showed up on 10/08.... Throwing a dart at a calendar is likely to get you pretty close.
