Just realize who was holding up the show this time. Not Mini.
Sorry Newt but this was all on Mini and the lower MPG numbers indicate why. EPA publishes the rules long in advance, nothing changed in those rules. BMW/Mini know the rules very very well. Mini tried to get away with doing their own factory testing to satisfy the EPA requirements but clearly their numbers were optimistic by 10%. That is significant. Mini could have done the real EPA testing on 2014 models but they choose not to. Instead they enjoyed advertising their higher MPG numbers until the EPA called them out on not doing the proper testing. Once that testing was done we see that their testing was wrong. Sorry, this was 100% Mini's fault. This is why they don't want to make a big deal out of it. They knew once the proper testing was done their inflated numbers wouldn't hold up and they don't want to call attention to that. They hope it will just slip by consumers which in most cases it will. Only those that have been involved in the delay will know the numbers dropped ~10%.

I thought EPA randomly selects a few (10-20%) models for verifying the claimed numbers. It's a bummer because I ordered my 2015 expecting it to be same as the advertised 2014 numbers. By the way, a full size car Mazda 6 2.5liter gets 26mpg city, 38mpg highway. F56 auto is rated 28 city 38 hwy.

MINI states, in their 2014 model year Cooper S EPA certification application, that they tested in green mode.

http://iaspub.epa.gov/otaqpub/displa...d=32021&flag=1

Section 15, Page 4:
"15.2.9 Corporate Average Fuel Economy Calculation
Since the 2007 model year and in accordance with Dear Manufacturer letter
CCD-02-10, BMW performs customer vehicle surveys that downloaded select-shift transmission usage data during service at authorized BMW dealers.

BMW has determined that the automatic BMW models equipped with select-shift transmissions will be operated predominantly in the economy mode.

Using good engineering judgment, BMW has concluded that it is appropriate to carry-forward and carry-across the results of the earlier surveys. Accordingly, BMW will use only economy- mode fuel economy test results for calculating fuel economy label values and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ)."

It's a Mini.

A dog friendly car.

That dog should be inside, looking out.

Not outside, looking forlorn.

Can't a dog get a ride?

If it was a bulldog, maybe. But I'm guessing not.

Everyone must be so excited with their delivery.
Mine is awaiting transport. Ordered on 9/20, built on 10/3. Long way to go.

-Cornering Lights Upgrade
-17" Black Cosmos Upgrade

Follow up on my new Mini. As posted yesterday, I got Carlota and drove her home 250 miles, driving over the Oregon coast range and down the coast to home. So here are my early thoughts. Please remember my only experience with Minis is my '10 Mini justa. So all this related to that Mini. First, by far the biggest difference is the usable torque. Driving on the coast range in my R56 required shifting into 5th or 4th to maintain speed. Below 3000 rpm, it was pretty gutless (not there is anything wrong with that). My new Mini is the 3 cylinder. Going up those roads on the coast range, I decided to see how much torque was usefully there. I left it in 6th, cruise on 62 (2100 rpm). It pulled right over the steepest of the hills with no loss of speed. Very impressive.
Throttle response is the next thing I noticed right away. With the R56, the response was jerky or snatchy at very low speeds like stop and go traffic. I got used to it but took some working at it. The F56 is basically the opposite. It take more movement of the throttle to get things going. Might be related to turbo lag but whatever, I like it better this way.
Ride and road noise is much improved. Haven't been able to give her a real go on curving roads but did use the sport mode for a few sections and it reacted very much like my old Mini. Might be a bit more body roll but not of any concern. Having to get used to changes on the door locks, steering wheel switch gear and gas filler on the right side. Very, very happy so far. I Iike the additional room especially in the boot. I have the sport seats and they are very nice but maybe not quite as comfortable as the sport seats in the R56 but that is probably a personal opinion Now if I can master all the technology....I guess it is just another challenge.

Actually, doesn't seem all that odd. I know in CA, they rented some hanger space to keep the cars indoors (or so I was told).

So picture all the cars packed in there -- they may have to get some of the last cars put in out of the way to get to the cars first put in. Also, they want to be sending full carriers out, so your car may have just got the last space, or been the right car in the right place at the right time.

So congrats to you, and enjoy!

Hope to see mine this week...

Thank you for the info! All these different "modes" are new to me since my first was an '06. Will be a bit of a learning curve for me aside from the different modes, since Lady Arabella was only a 5 speed, so now will have to get used to that 6th gear. I think it's the different modes that will take some time to get used to most. Hate the loaner, but it's a 2014 Clubman, automatic. That one has the sport seats and I really don't care for them, so I'm glad I didn't get that option. I'm tiny and they made me feel claustrophobic but that's just me maybe. Is yours a base or S? I got the base model with just a few options as I love driving and the one I test drove made me feel like there were too many distractions. Did you get the "volcanic orange" colour as your name says? That's what I got even though it looks more like a school bus yellow to me. Or as my wiseass teen says "processed American cheese food product yellow"! Pics?

Yes, Volcanic Orange, black stripes. Base model pretty much optioned out. I test drove both 4 3 cylinders and liked the 3 best.

Congrats to everyone who got their MINIs!!!!!

I spoke to my MA yesterday, my MINI is at the dealer! I'm scheduled to pick it up this Saturday!

Can't wait!

If anyone is still wondering about this, for compensation I was allowed $500 to either put towards payments, maintenance plans, or accessories.

Aw c'mon--you can't get your boss to give you time off? Tell him/her it would do so much for your mood, and productivity!

You're not going be doing much except daydreaming tomorrow, anyway, right?

So, this is a good time for a "personal day off."

Spoken like someone who owns her own business, eh? (And married to a retired guy.) I'm ready to drop everything and run, just as soon as I get the word!

Just did my first fillup. 39,9 mpg. I'm liking that. That's mixed driving from stop & go traffic to rural driving. Taking a two day trip out into eastern Oregon so I will report on the mileage & how "Carlota" does. Going to be fun.

Got a call today from the GM and I have been told my 2015 MCS will be leaving the VDC on Friday with a pickup of next Wednesday. I have been told that MINI will make sure they make it worth my while to keep on waiting. Order back in Middle of June and now after 4 months the wait will finally be over.

You have an MCS auto, right? This is good news.
