Received a Transmission "Over-Heating" Warning Light

I might be the first forum member to earn the distinction of getting a transmission "Over-Heating" warning light on an F54.

I recently got stuck in a snow bank so badly, that in the process of trying to get myself out (while also digging my way to China) I apparently overheated the transmission to the extent that it triggered a warning light.

I doubt that I did any real image to the drivetrain, but I certainly did something to overcook the tires as my Clubman hasn't ridden as smoothly since the episode. :(

If you have snow buildup inside the rim, that will add unbelievable vibration, so check that before assuming the heat did anything to the tires. Assuming you killed the engine after the warning light and let it cool off before driving again, does it stay on?

The vehicle was shutdown within a minute or two after the warning light came on, and it's remained off ever since.

As far as snow/ice build up in the wheels is concerned, the incident occurred weeks ago and the vehicle has been driven several hundred miles since then.

While there are no clear signs of damage to the tires, I suspect that I diid something to compromise the integrity of rubber, as the ride quality has never been the same.

Wow! Nearly the exact same thing happened to me, in the same situation, including burning rubber smell, but without the warning message. A by-stander told me my wheels were spinning, but I couldn't hear it. Also manual.

What was the outcome with your tires?

They appear fine. Guess it smelled worse than it was?
