Can anyone supply the VO string he will need? I don't see the CD changer in the known codes worksheet:

Looks like it will be a $694 if the car was prewired for a changer, in which case it looks like a CD changer would be plug & play. Also no coding is probably necessary.

Looks like a car with a CD changer is coded as a $672 in the VO.

I just typed "mini cooper r56 6 cd changer" in Google and found instructions for an ipod retrofit. The doc refers to the VO options.

I appreciate everyone looking in to it. I have a cd changer heading my way from a salvage yard for $100 and I've found the wires all ready to go. I will report back on the plug and play. I still want to explore the programming for other fun stuff.

Hi guys, I've just tested on my 2011 R56 and I got NCS Expert working using Datens v40 (v38 wouldn't get the FA code, and sometimes give me VIN Faulty).

But my battery went dead, the car wouldn't start up. Should I be doing this with the car completely on (not just ignition on)?

Also, the coding didn't work (tried to get the comfort window and roof closing), but I believe it was because of the battery.

Did someone have this problem?

Thanks.

Don't do it with the car running.

It is best to have a battery charger connected when do it. That way you don't have to rush.

I wouldn't want to have the car running during the process of writing to the different computer modules because they "reboot". I wouldn't want to have the car running when they reboot. It might be ok but I wouldn't try it.

Most people recommend a using a battery charger, especially if you default the whole car.

This! I have depleted my battery enough during coding that the car needed a jump. If you are quick about it, no big deal, but if like me you take your time, changing one thing at a time and testing each step, plus occasionally screwing up and then fixing it, it can take down your charge just enough to be a problem.

FWIW, I've coded my CM with the engine running as I don't have a battery tender with enough juice. No problems at all though.

The only thing you don't want to have the engine running for is for any changes made to the engine module, which this thread isn't about anyway.

Did someone have or knows somebody that bricked the car? And what about that engine modules, is this like "chip" the car?

While I haven't bricked my car, I have had a couple scares:
- When coding the sunroof module, I somehow glitched the safety pinch sensor and it would would only close an inch at a time

- Forgot which module it was, but I somehow glitched my MINI into thinking my active spoiler was in the up position....I had a Countryman, not a coupe....

Both errors were caused by using older datens than what my car had and since, I've learned how to recode to default to fix such errors.

I've just tried to change the "KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB" at the ca module, but when I hit process and it returns "Coding ended", there's no "click sound" and nothing happens. Seems that NCS is not writing the file to my car.

Did anyone have this problem?
Using v40 datens.

Thanks!

Just did it yesterday to fellow NAM member car and I can't remember if I heard clicks when doing that module. Make sure that your job selection is SG_CODIEREN.

Does your other coding in other modules work?

I decided to try one more time before post again, and for some reason it worked (I did the exact some way I was doing before)! It took a couple of extra seconds to process and it did make a "click" sound.

I'll try some other modules too.
Thanks man!

Those are pretty old datens - any reason you're not using newer ones? I think v51.2 is the newest I've seen.

I was wondering the same. The newest are 53.0.5.

It won't make much of a difference if the software in the car is as old or older than the v40 datens, but if the software is newer, you may run into issues down the line. That's how my CM got accidentally coded into thinking it had a retractable spoiler.

I recommend downloading the newer datens and make sure you DELETE the old one completely before adding the new one. Overwriting datens causes all sorts of issues.

What year/model is your MINI?

I also downloaded the datens, thanks!!

But..I can't find a working link for the software itself. The links I've tried, either no longer are valid, or what I download doesn't work.

I got the software from the bimmerforums page last night.

Still waiting on the cable and having some issues with the software reading the datens file but I haven't spent much time on it yet. Mostly just reading
