Drivetrain CAI for R56 (home made)
I may have to slap this filter on over that 9in filter i have on my Alta shroud lol http://www.amazon.com/True-Flow-9020...82339&sr=1-132
or stick with spectre and squeeze out 3 more inches http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/SPT9738.htm
I found a 14in spectre but I don't think it would fit due to not having an adjustable inlet...
I may buy the 12in one just to see if I get more power........Before I got the downpipe installed my car felt sluggish with the spectre on so I put the foam Alta filter on, but now I have the downpipe and it was reverse..I definitely feel the difference of the downpipe with the spectre 9in on..

DoS is working on getting that piece of paper from the state. Thanks for asking.
As I mentioned in the emails we exchanged in May, don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email if you have any more questions concerning CARB exemptions.
Thanks!

Anybody ever try one of these?

The filter looks similar to the DOS intake, though probably not as high quality. The closest one I could find to the DOS filter is a K&N Apollo which is very pricey!

I was thinking of trying something similar to the DOS intake and cut a hole in the bulkhead and sticking this thing in there. I know it's not exactly the same as the DOS intake as it doesn't have the extra piece to connect to the stock air line. Maybe I could duct the stock air line into the bulkhead also right under the intake? Anybody have any input as to how it might work?
Thanks

I personally consider small mods like CAI, Catchcan, Turbo Hoses + Tubing to be "free" mods. You can do them yourself for very little money, and if you do the install with the right tools and hardware, the differences between your design and a manufactured one are little to nothing and all.
I don't see why it wouldnt work if you just picked up a little bit of tubing and cut it to the size you need. Nobody has tried it because its alot easier to go online and buy a bolt on one.

I agree. I just picked up a catchcan off eBay and it will probably be my project this weekend. Trying to see what kind of crazy but effective intake I can make under $100.
Just did a cheap oil'd filter from autozone, it sounds pretty sweet! My check engine light came on though, probably because I ran it for a few minutes without the mad on. I wonder if it will go off. Yuck install and sounds pretty sweet!
Ill post some pictures tonight. Next step is to free some air flow through the hood scoop. I might try to jerry rig some of a scoop tube that runs over the intake.
I think there is some gains at the throttle from this as well, 27 bucks well spent!

I didnt really feel any gains with my intake, but I think it's worth it just for the sound
I just completed this mod. I bought an AEM Cone paper filter and attached it directly to my MAF sensor. I did not notice an increase in pickup. I can hear the BOV now, which is cool if you dont have your stereo on. I also noticed a reduction in Fuel economy. I went from 28.5 a gallon to 27.7. I am not sure I like this mod. I may reinstall the airbox and drop in a K&N filter.

The silicone tube/elbow creates a longer path to the MAF and gives the turbulent incoming air a chance to smooth out before hitting the heated element/sensor in MAF. This enables more accurate MAF readings and avoids CELs and/or a lean condition in the engine.

I don't want to pick through the ~28 pages of this thread, but this came up earlier.
