But i was wondering if you have experanced any extra heat from the new head? Have you had to change thermostats? or have had to add any other type of extra cooling to the engine?

Anyways, i cant wait to see what kind of numbers are produced with the other steps involved with the head! keep us posted.
I am curious about the potential heat generated as well. Are there any EGT deltas that would indicate an increase in heat?

Leave me alone you crazy Brit. I will feed you info when I'm done.

Seriously, the header has been done for awhile. It's crazy long and looks amazing with the Burn's collector. All 304 stainless.

The first cat back was just to load even for me. We are now working with with a very well known company to create a cat back that works with the header yet still sounds mean while not offending. It my not pass the wife test but who really cares.

I should be back on the road tomorrow and then more Dyno testing. Once we get it all right you will be the first person I tell. Not really.

Love you Paul,

It's flowing more so it'll generate more heat. We haven't touched the factory cooling system. You forget, people run turbo only and twincharge kits with the stock cooling system pushing out 100-200 HP more than we are .

I'm not forgetting, just overly cautious. At what point would an upgrade to the cooling system be deemed necessary (additional oil cooler, high performance radiator)?

Wow. This is awesome.

I see that the 3 of you with this head so far are running the OBX header and some other exhaust.

What CAT are you running with this setup? I have trouble believing the stock CAT can flow well enough with it's tiny 2" collector.

Thanks!

Somebody else is figuring out the means and the steps to achieving this magic 230+whp setup.

Not sure where you came up with the OBX brand header for the 3 Mini's. Mine has a Stahl header since before the head install. Cat is 3" 200 cell race type from Random Technologies. Jan is working on a complete exhaust to compliment the head. It does not use an OBX brand header. Look back over some previous posts in the thread. Longboard is running the exhaust prototype.

I'm still running the stock cat. It flows great if you modify the flange to mate up to a 2.5" exhaust. Mine is still the stock 2.25" opening though. Both Longboard and Nate are running much different exhausts. I've heard all the stories about Longboard's exhaust .

I'll start replacing stuff when my cooling system starts having a hard time keeping up. After 6-7 hard HARD runs on the dyno with only a floor fan cooling the radiator the coolant temp never went above 191 (Data logged with an OBDII computer). I see no reason to shell out the money to upgrade the cooling system on the car if it's not having any issues keeping up. I *MIGHT* swap out the thermostat for a 180 degree, just so it kicks in sooner, especially once the SoCaL summer hits.

Did you monitor oil temperatures too?

Longboard said for the post dyno, he had an OBX header on there. Was wondering what CAT he is using with it.

I may see him today. I'll ask him about it . I know his original exhaust was ridiculously loud...

No... we were more concerned with IAT and ECT.

When I get it back on the dyno i'll see if Oil Temp is something that we can read off the OBD2 port with the scanner we have. Otherwise, at some point in the near future i'll be getting full gauge setup (Boost, AF, and Oil Temp) so i'll be able to get it off there and update everyone. The cost of an aftermarket oil cooler is ridiculously cheap.

Mini Madness sells one on their site, I can't imagine it costs more than 100-120 dollars to install, there shouldn't be much routing involved.

Make sure to get the cooler/radiator and not just the adapter plate and fittings. Total is $525.

I was running the OBX / stock cat/ Miltek w/Vibrant Performance resonator when I pull the 231.9 run.

I'm now running a new prototype system.

Ahh, I missed that. Still cheap for what it is. If you're already in the $10k mod club, what's another $500

Well, i've wasted a lot of money. One thing El D is good at is making the money count. I've made more HP with the last 2800 bucks i've spent than I have in the preceeding 6k .

WOW! Ok. I'll hold off on the thinking the stock CAT isnt quite up to the capacity of the OBX header. I stand corrected.

Ok. so why were you using a different resonator?

OBD does not provide oil temp or pressure readings...

The stock miltek resonator had a rattle in it. I picked the Vibrant because it is a strait threw design. I thought it might help free up a little more while making the Miltek loader. I always felt the Miltek was to tame.

The sound with the new res was perfect.

Any one need a used OBX / Miltek combo?
