Drivetrain 231.9WHP with new big valve head. Stock cam and ECU.
Load all the parts into your boot...
and bring them to Vegas! If the clutch frys, I'm sure Agro and his buddies can help you get the stuff put in on Monday! Live on the edge!

ps, I mean if you're gonna replace it, might as well have some fun....

I got 15 nitrous runs out of a stock clutch and I'm not sympathetic to my drivetrain...
You have to start somewher Longboard just like the dyno you can see an improvement/delta, same at the track you might run a 14.1 at 107 but when you put a diff and clutch in you run a 13.4 @ 107 now you have a big smile and can justify the expense

Who knows, Vegas has a way of making you do things

I have a question, i,ve been reading this thread, not all of it dont have that much time, but are cars like Longboards going to pass smog?????? I live in California where they could care less what comes out of the pipe, but will fail you because it does not look stock! This has been a concern of mine in adding more mods, plus dont have the money either
. Please give any comments on this smog problem.

Different subject???? Don't think so because it all fits together. No smog no drive. Should have clarified my question more, Longboard do you think your car can pass Cal. emissions, with just the tailpipe readings?

We will see. I have a blind smog tech I use

Thanks for the response Longboard, please post the findings on your smog when you get it done. Like I said i'm kinda leary on doing more mods if it won't smog.
I just can't imagine these guys being so gung ho to do this stuff... unless like some mafia type outfit they're looking to extort anything they can from you via repairs or replacment parts.
Yeah, different subject.
FWIW, I've modded every car I"ve ever had except my Acura MDX, and while the mods may not have been CARB exempt, none have degraded emissions nor have any been flaggged for a higher level of inspection. But that's not to say others haven't been caught. The debate is endless, so we're back at what I said before, you walk on this ice at your own risk. Technically, anything without a CARB sticker is a violation. Practically, it's the luck of the draw.
Matt
I tried...
but I give up.
Smog laws are good things, no matter how badly we've managed to screw up the implementation. Here's how it works for those not in smog states.
There is an emissions test. The frequency of testing is dictated by the state, not the feds, so it differs state to state. In CA, it's every two years after the "new car exepmtion" passes. This is pretty micky mouse. You go to a smog station (not state owned in CA) and get sniffed. They are supposed to do a visual inspection for all those pretty anodized aluminum blow off valves or whatever. If they don't have a CARB number you're hosed. But that's if they look. A lot of places don't. For most locations, the test is the same, but some with real bad air have a bit more stringent tests (we may all now have the more stringent test, Im not sure). When you get sniffed. The sniffer is stuck in your exhaust pipe and an RPM probe is attached to the car. They run the motor at idle and 2500 RPM on a load device (like a dyno) and all the data is sent over phone lines to Sacramento. If you fail you get the chance to repair and restest (this is when most modder put all the stock stuff back on). IF you pass your fine, if not, you go to the special inspection facilities. If you go to special inspection this is where you can get hosed. These guys know what's up and will spot violations. There are also laws limiting how much you have to spend in correcting your car, and depending on details of the car, what's wrong, whether the fault was intentional (gee, I don'tknow how an aftermarket turbo got there!) all go into the decision blender to see if you get an exepmtion (too expensive to fix), time to repair, or a trip to a crusher!
So with new cars in CA, you don't have to worry about this for 5 years or so. By then, it might be someone elses problem, or you put all the stuff that looks aftermarket away and get the test looking stockish (that's what I did with my FIAT.) Or you find a friend of a friend that can sniff a Honda civic while they type in your VIN. Whatever, 5 years is a long time...... Hmmm. Next year will be my first smog test. Now where are all those old parts!
Matt
ps, now Longboard has it right. You run a cat on a street car, keeping it clean. Then you find the buddy when you need him.

I have an OBX with a cat and a Milltek cat-back. The cat-back is one of the few CA-legal items without a CARB sticker.
I got a K&N CAI as my very first mod (vs other CAIs) because it came (comes) with a CARB sticker.
I also kept my stock header complete with cat, just in case. I don't expect any trouble, though.
Only time will tell.

Just curious but after 5 years, how often do you need to go through this inspection process? Is an inspection good for another 5 years? Or does it become a yearly thing?
I know this is getting off topic but was just curious since folks are going through the trouble to explain things to those of us outside of CA.
In certain counties in Ohio there's a sniff the pipe type inspection you have to get after your car is so old, I think it's a biannual thing once your car's so old, but I moved to a county without those tests and lost track of the latest rules.

This is no longer true. MD has done away with the sniffer and the roller bars. Now they just check the OBDII port and ANY codes thrown and store is automatic failure. Then the same process of getting it fixed.
Am I missing something? Are we not allowed to mention Fireballed Racing or something? Would I be wrong to assume that the head you installed is the new big valve head Fireballed has been working on Longboard? I'd be interested in getting more information on this, but everyone is being so vague

.Seems like the journey has just started!
