Drivetrain Dinan upgrades
I have a question about the stage# downloads.
Lets say I get the Stage 3 download ($399) and latter down the road I get the throttle body and need the Stage 4($499).....is that just a add on, or do I have to spend another $499?
Thanks

Ok after the cam shaft.
OK, after the cam shaft, its alot smoother from bottom to top, but for the money I would say not really worth the dollar amount. Only thing left to do from Dinan, is brakes and springs and will wait till warrenty ends to do slotted rotters and ebc brake pads, and H Sport sway bar and springs.
Over all I am well pleased with the complete Dinan package, People get cofused when they see the DINAN S badge on the boot. They're not sure if the car is a Mini Cooper or a Dinan.
So I may have to swap the Cooper S badge on my dash with the Dinan S badge on my boot.

Still having fuel management issues, after throttle body and pulley installed. Below 1/4 of tank in gas, Coop, will just stop running then pick back up then stop again then go, like a fuel pressure issue. Mini of Nashville seems to have a problem in actually fixin this issue. I have had it in twice for this issue, but for some reason doesn't work for them when there. Go figure.
Never the less, its worth the wait for you 05r's that was after 10-04 build. Main problem after 10 pts. was where to put my CooperS since DINAN took over my boot, Dash was the next best place.

I have the dinan stage 6 software with a throttlebody and a shcrick cam and no fuel tank stuff and my car runs very strong. Is it getting all of the fuel it needs? Or have I waisted my $$$

Dear Dinan specialist,
I found that the stage 5 vs the 6 is a very big difference. Yes I only had the pay the difference between the two which was like $200 plus I did my own cam. The northwest mini dealership had no problem with my warranty even with a mix and match system. The stage 5 is not as smooth as the 6. The 6 was the icing on the cake. It really tied the whole power together to make it a very usable fun powerband. ----BUT......I just finished a cylinder head upgrade, I dont know if the system likes the ported head, ultrik valves and header. Its behaving a little more strange. My car screams after 4700 RPM's but sputters a bit at the top and needs more R's. I lost some midrange power!!! Any reason for that? or will I be okay?
Can I get my torque and midrange back? -Clint

Clint......Stage 5-6 are meant for the boost kit and cam....Id try some bigger injecters and a SAFC with some dyno pulls to tune it up. Sounds like your losing fuel on the top and maybe leaning out
I think you could be on to something. I thought that these injectors were good till 265 horsepower. Do you think my car could be in those kind of high horsepower numbers? It feels very fast if you go all out. My car has met the criteria for the stage six but What is a SAFC. Take a look at my signature...What kind of injectors? how much?
Dian software upgrades
A general question: Do Dinan software upgrades eliminate the annoying MCS 'flat spot' at around 3000 rpm? And what about start up stumble in the morning, first starting of the engine?
Any replies appreciated.

Coopersharon, the more DINAN upgrade you aquire the more points you recieve. At the dealership they have a list of how many points each upgrade is worth. I have 19. At the time I got my badge you only had to have 10 points.

I've got the same question you have. When I first got my '03 MCS with 17k miles on it from the original owner, I had no yo-yo effect. Took it to the dealer and they immediately flashed it and created yo-yo... which they now cannot get rid of. I've since had an Alta CAI, a 15% Alta pulley and a Detroit-tuned Bypass Valve installed, and guess what, the yo-yo has just "morphed" into a different type of yo-yo! Still have flat spots in the acceleration curve at the proverbial 3000 rpms... especially when the air conditioner is cranking to overcome the recent heat wave.
If Dinan could guarantee that they could totally eliminate the yo-yo with one of their up-grades, I'd be all over it! At times, I'm tempted to trade-up to an '05 or '06 MCS, but my little '03 has everything I really want, IF I could just get rid of the yo-yo!
Can someone out there answer our yo-yo/stumble question regarding Dinan upgrades?
Thanks, fellow MINIers

Yes, you can trade up to a 06, just like mine (786 miles, no mods) and still have the same problems. Reading the files here, this seems a constant issue that has not been resolved by Mini.
I can live with the stumble as it disappears after a couple of minutes, but the flat spot is a PITA.
As I intend to upgrade software sometime soon, I talked with Don Hollingshead at Precision Mini and he tells me that MTH software eliminates the 'flat spot'. I still wonder if the same can be said about Dinan...any software users out there?
