Drivetrain Dinan upgrades
The flat spot that you guys are talking about, is that the same as the delay in the gas pedal? If your in nuetral and put the gas to the floor as fast as you can you there is a slight delay before the engine starts to rev up. You can almost get your foot to the floor before it starts to rev. Is that the same thing? If not I have no idea what your talking about.

I can live with the stumble as it disappears after a couple of minutes, but the flat spot is a PITA.
As I intend to upgrade software sometime soon, I talked with Don Hollingshead at Precision Mini and he tells me that MTH software eliminates the 'flat spot'. I still wonder if the same can be said about Dinan...any software users out there?

Flat spot

The 'flat spot' occurs with part throttle at around 3000 rpm. I'm not sure this is exactly the problem you are describing.

I notice that your a Dinan rep for the New York area, and as such you must be very familiar with Dinan software. Not to put you on the spot, but does Dinan also have the 'flat spot'?
And how does your MTH file compare to Dinan in your experience? Say for comparison, MTH tuner file and Dinan stage 5?
Any help with this is very much appreciated and would help solve my software dilemma.

The unichip custom tune also helped.... I have listened to about 100 theories on why this happens but no one has really totally cleared it up..... I have driven cars that have no symptoms at all (you lucky people) so there are many people that are happy and have no idea what we are talking about

The 3000 rpm flat spot has led me to a real love-hate relationship with MINI. The most disappointing thing about this whole issue is that MINI has essentially turned their backs on their customers and used the flimsy excuse of "just have it re-flashed to the latest version" solution! My theory is that MINI wants to avoid addressing the issue due to the potentially high costs of mass repairs, have the 2nd generation MINI rolled-out, and then the 1st generation MINI problems become "ancient" and they no longer have to deal with their 1st generation owners.
Right now, my best solution is to try to avoid "partial" throttle whenever possible and apply "full throttle"... which interestingly, makes the flat spot go away!
I truly love this car and I love what the MINI brand stands for in the automotive world. It's sad that MINI corporate won't step-up and try to keep its brand loyalists the happiest customers they have! What a shame and disappointment from such a world-class brand as MINI/BMW.

That would be terrific.
Another question; is there a flat spot in Dinan Sage 3 software?

I noticed that on my car, the ecu took a couple of days of driving to clear up my flat spot issues. After I ported the head, changed valved and changed the exhaust, I took it out for a run and was really bummed out. After a hand full driving, It all cleared up and I got the power I desired.
EXCEPT... My car is leaning out at the top! I would like for someone to tell me how to get the fuel I need at high RPM's and what the dinan 6 software can handle. Is a ported port matched head and header too much for it to keep up?
Also I dont have the $900.00 fuel tank system and my budget wont allow me to purchace it. Is there another way out? Can I change only the fuel regulator? Are larger injectors the answer? Do I have to spend over a thousand dollars to get this tank system when I allready have a pulley (which comes with the system) Isn't the stock fuel pump good enough?!!

My Stage 3 update.
I went a couple of weeks ago to get the Stage 3 download after I installed the CAI. They could not do it because there was no download for the '06 yet.
Dinan told them any day now it should be out and that they will honor the 50% discount if it comes out after the sale.

I guess that getting an SAFC and bigger injectors will do the job, but I am still wondering what the difference is between Dinan's fuel upgrade and the stock configuration. Is there any difference in any way.
Dinan now has the Stage III for the '05 and '06 in the last update that was sent out to the dealers.
Just got the download yesterday and have noticed no flat spots FWIW.
So, far....very cool.

Yeah, I drove 2hrs to get the Stage III for my '05 this morning and was very ticked off when it would not download. I got a loaner and left my car there for them to figure out Monday. I paid for the stuff 5 months ago.
Dinan better figure something out.

The stock fuel pump is more than enough. Dinan as far as I'm concerned went a different way(just to be different) The works kit comes with larger injectors for a reason. If you get Works 380 or M7 400 injectors it should clear up your lean condition, and save $. My set up is equal to the JCW and the Dinan in Hp. Good Luck
BLKDINAN has recently graduated from DINAN Stage 3 software with an Ultrik 15% reduction pulley to DINAN Stage 5 with Stage 3 suspension - now designated S2 with engine plaque. Acceleration without hesitation, all the way, and very stable. Excellent results.
