Need your expert opinion on when I should install the S1 & Boost Upgrade Dinan on an 06 MCS w/ 3000 miles? Have been told to wait until 10k before mods, but am itching to do so asap.

Thanks in Advance

Littleburl,
The boost upgrade and S1 kit I would not recomend putting on your car yet until they have finished with the software upgrade for the '06 models. I too have been waiting patiently but unfortunatley they do nto have a software package out yet to accomodate the remap of the fuel for this kit. Just my $.02
Thanks

Guess I should wait until the software is completed, this would give me the time to save the $.

Yea, what he said.

As for the 7/04 and up software working on some 05 cars.....This is a first of me hearing that it works on some 05 cars as Dinan even made me aware it to me that it wouldnt.

Im glad its working for those customers.

1FSTMINI,

Did you ever post that clip of the dinan car? I'm still trying to choose between Dinan and Helix (which is very local).

My MCS just set sail on its way to the US, but I am thinking of having some Dinan upgrades done right out of the gate.

Here is what I am thinking

Dinan Pulley Boost System (Part D-780-0030)
Dinan Throttle Body (Part D-760-0015A)
Dinan Intake (Part D-760-0001)
Dinan Stage 5 or 6 Software (depending on following question)

1. What do people think of the Dinan Camshaft to complete the package?

2. I live in a 8.25% sales tax area so I am thinking of just ordering the parts from an out of state dealer and having them installed locally. Anyone have experience with dealers not wanting to install parts mail ordered or do Dinan Dealers only want to install parts purchased from them?

Looking under the hood, installing a pulley looks like a pia (pain in ****) so that is definitely a dealer install now that temps are hitting 90 already. I will be adding a full exhaust system (header to the tailpipes) myself... Probably the milltek or madness header and still deciding on the exhaust.

Thoughts, comments appreciated?

if you can do the installation of the headers and catback, you can definately do the pulley install.

MiniTX- where are you in TX? We have a local mechanic in N. Dallas area whom a lot of us take our cars to for great mod work and his labor is reasonable.

I am in Houston,,,

I think I am going to add the Dinan Boost and Throttle Body... Most likely will go aftermarket for the intake and probably Miltek for a header to the tailpipe.

Would the MTH software be a good option if Dinan is behind?

"etaljif - you can do the installation of the headers and catback, you can definately do the pulley install."

Don't forget, the Dinan boost kit includes the install of a fuel regulator in the gas tank (i think), as well as the pulley. Maybe not so easy.

"MiniTX - My MCS just set sail on its way to the US, but I am thinking of having some Dinan upgrades done right out of the gate."

One advantage to taking delivery with the Dinan parts installed by the dealer is that you may be able to include them in you financing package, rather than paying out of pocket later. This of course assumes that Dinan has software and all the parts available for your new car.

FWIW, I have had my Dinan goodies (boost kit, throttle body, intake, exhaust, stage 5 software) installed for a couple of weeks now and I am loving the new power - I am one of the lucky ones with an 05 MCS for which Dinan has software available. The only thing that has surpised me is that the exhaust is a quite a bit louder and more flatulent than I was expecting. The Dinan rep told me to expect a little deeper tone, but otherwise sounding like stock - just more of it! Well, that was understating things a little. I was going for stealthy horsepower, rather than advertising to the local redneck muscle car crowd that I was itchin' fer a race. You'll have to forgive my tender ears, but I'm 55 years old and have been picturing driving my 85 year old dad around his home town in the MINI. And before you say it, no, I didn't listen to the exhaust before buying as I should have. Just because you get older doesn't necessarily mean you stop being a *******.

Spoke to the Dinan product specialist at the BMW dealer and he is checking on the software situation for a 2006 MCS.

Update, called Dinan myself and they said it could be 10 minutes or months before software is available. Can do the air box, throttle body, and exhaust but have to hold off until the software is done before doing the boost upgrade.

One of the lucky ones myself. Have Stage 5 installed for about 5 months now. Enjoying the excitement of 0-80 in a rapid hurry, but is having problems sometimes with fuel pick up after going below 1/4 of a tank of gas. So I fill up at 1/2.

Yes but then you will lose your warranty. We cant see the software though when i hook up the GT1 so your ok there, but no dealer will ( or shouldnt ) put the boost kit in without the Dinan software for warranty purposes.

The boost kit includes the pulley, belt and also the fuel regulator for the tank as well as the fuel rail.

06 is def not available since most early n late model 05's are still having problems

I will just do the throttle body and intake then come back later for the boost and software. Always can put the cash towards a header and exhaust.

The Dinan intake is easy enough to install yourself if you are even a little mechanically inclined and want to save a few $. Only part that is even remotely difficult is cutting out the small section of the cowl divider so the intake can get cold air from the cowl vent just below the windshield. The throttle body should also be a relatively simple installation.

Thanks Fuego,

Since Dinan has been beyond slow to respond to my dealer and seems slow to support the 06 models, I can going to bench all the Dinan upgrades in the original purchase of the car and do engine mods this fall when the engine is broken in. I could tear the motor down and build it complete from my drag racing days with Hemi's and the like, just have to remember this is only a 4 cyl. At 41 years old, didnt want to be doing it in 95 degree / 95% humidity anymore was the only reason I would think about having someone else do it...

I am going to go the direction of suspension, brakes, wheels and tires to tune that and then go for zoom once I get a better feel for where the power comes on and drops off. In the suspension area, Dinan is just overpriced when can buy Koni stuff at retail for 25% less and pay 50% less in labor if you dont want to do it yourself. Right now, I am up in the air whether to do the Bilstein or Koni Coilover's and whether to upgrade the stock brakes or just rip them off and put some 11.75" Wildwoods on.

Since my driving is less about buzzing the motor, I will probably focus on what can be done to make it more responsive in the mid-range.

Any word on the software for 05-06 cars? I've got money burning a hole in my pocket.

I've been waiting 4 months for the 05/06 software to be finished. My intake and exhaust are sitting at the dealer. I spoke with the Dinan rep today(7/6) and he said it should be done this month. I can only hope.

Don't hold your breath. Just put on the intake and exhaust now so you can start enjoying it. You can always do the software later. Dinan "highly recommends" their software to go with any of their other products, but I would not say it's really necessary, other than to pad Dinan's pocketbook.

On the Dinan site.. states the software is required for the upgrade...

"Stage 5 Engine Software is required with the Boost Upgrade System. Installation of the Dinan Boost Upgrade System without Stage 5 Engine Software will result in engine damage!"
