I recently had a customer bring all of his Dinan stuff back to the dealer, had me install a 15%, exhaust and Helix intake, we will do MTH next, and he is much happier now

BLKDINAN where did you get your Dinan emblem?

The emblem was supplied by DINAN though my dealership. As an S2 you should be able to approach your dealer and ask them to acquire it for you.

fix8ted....... I add that the dealership/installer has to confirm with DIANAN that the appropriate components were installed. Also supplied is a numbered plaque either S1 or S2, depending on the components installed, that is placed inside the engine compartment.

BLKDINAN, Can you tell me what items HAVE to be installed to qualify for S2 status?

The items I'm interested in are:
CAI
Stage 5 Software
Boost upgrade system
High-Flow Throttle Body
Free Flow Exhaust

I don't really care about the strut brace or floor mats.

I was looking at the Dinan "engine package" It looks like a good deal to me. Comparatively considering that it is half the cost of the JCW kit and about the same power. The only problem is that on the service sheet it was not out for any of the 2006 build models like mine. I am guessing the sheet was just old, but you never know.

Scavenger-from what I looked at the items you listed were part of the "engine package" and it totalled roughly 2500 dollars. It also said it came with the badge.

Out of curiosity why was he much happier? It seems like if he got the boost upgrade kit, exhaust, intake, and stage 5 software it would be about the same thing.

I just started my conversion to an S1. I installed the CAI last Friday and really like the sound.

So far so good.

I talked to Dinan today, they said their Brembo brakes won't fit my wheels. I have a set of 17" Webspokes and a set of 16" X-Lites. I bought the X-Lites specifically because they are one of the only 16" sets which fit the JCW brakes, but now that I'm considering Dinan, neither set will work?

Someone please say it ain't so!!

I talked to Dinan today and they said the Brembos won't fit any MINI wheels. This would mean I'd have to go aftermarket... but, I don't want to go aftermarket. Could the salesman have been incorrect?

Dinan sells the Brembo brakes...

and they are BIG. If you have smaller wheels, give Todd at TCE a call. He's a vendor here. He has sets based on Wilwood calipers that fit smaller wheels.

I have the Dinan S1 - there's a full review of it in the performance (drivetrain) forum, just search Dinan and it should come up.

I'm happy with it - the only thing I am starting to fall out of love with is the exhaust - I like the milltek sound better.

I have the Dinan cold-air intake, plug wires, strut bar, pulley upgrade and stage 5 software. I installed the first 3 myself and had Mini of Hawaii do the boost upgrade & software update... Didn't get the exhaust, just kept my one-ball. Although many Dinan exhaust owners claim it to be great, I can't see paying $900 for a clamp-one exhaust....

I must say the increase in acceleration is very nice. The car seems to run smoother and has a very strong pull now. The CAI is pretty much like stock, except you can hear the intake when getting on the throttle, if you really listen for it... I am glad I did it and will most-likely get the Dinan throttle body eventually to install myself.

I did have an issue of a screaching noise coming from the fuel tank area.. but Mini of Hawaii found out to be a faulty Dinan fuel filter..Dinan sent them a new one, MoH replaced it and car was fine... no cost to me... that is exactly why I went Dinan...

Tell me about your screeching noise. My car has Dinan CAI, exhaust, boost, TB and stage 5. I am getting a high pitched whine from the gas tank that was not there initially. It diminishes at a low gas level and is loudest when above a half tank. Also gets louder with a right turn and lessens with a left. At first I was concerned about the fuel pump but I also thought it may just be some resonance from one of the lines touching something, especially since it changes volume with car movement. That pressure regulator looks like an octopus being stuffed in there.

I'm three hours from the dealership so I was waiting for another reason to go in. It's going Monday, so I like to hear a bit more about your noise.

Thanks,
Donna

It's the fuel pump working hard. Since the system is a dead head there is no return line to the tank, sooooooo......... weeeeeeeee, a message from the FP telling you it's doing it's best.

I can't completely agree with your assessment. And here is why...

After 1 week with the new Dinan boost upgrade and stage 5 software, my car started making an horrible screaching/ whining noise after I filled up one day. It started as soon as I put the key in the car, kept going while started and didn't stop until I turned it off... Also it did get louder or softer on turns, just like queenb is experiencing now. I talked with Dinan on the day it started doing it. Dinan techs said it should sound exactly like stock. "There should be no new noises from the fuel tank area. Take it into the installer."

I took it in to Mini of Hawaii to have them troubleshoot the noise and also had a smell of fuel from the boot since the install. They looked at the system and replaced the fuel pump due to a cracked bushing. This solved the fuel smell, but the noise was still there... After taking the fuel tank system in and out 4 times, they ended up swapping out a regular Mini fuel filter as a test and the noise was gone. Dinan send out a new Dinan fuel filter to replace mine.. MoH installed the new on and noise was gone... Been a week back so far and no noise...

The fuel filter/pump issue concerns me as I may be getting this soon. Is it really necessary over the stock unit? What's the difference anyway?

Thanks for the reply. The sound was not present immediately after the fuel pressure system was installed but showed up after about 6 weeks. I wouldn't describe it as screeching though. High pitched, whining sound would be more like it. A good bit more volume on the radio will almost cover it up.

My initial thought was the fuel pump. It has been about 2 months since I began hearing it. There is no issue with the operation of the car. I've run track days and visit the Dragon with some regularity. The fact that it changes is curious and makes me think something is resonating or vibrating. You can definitely hear it all the time, louder with a full tank. Diminishes on a left turn and increases on a right turn. The harder the right turn, the louder it is. I'm going to have them take a look and see what they think next week.

I am curious as to how loud the "screeching" was because that description seems like it would be louder than what I hear.

The bigger fuel filter & regulator is part of the Dinan boost kit.. lets more fuel through the system I suspect... Prob not necessary, but I bet Dinan wouldn't honor their warranty if it wasn't installed. You would have to ask them...

IT's a way to keep up with the higher fuel demands of

a car with more boost. As I understand it, the stock system increases fuel pressure with boost, up to a point. The stock system is fine for a stock car, but as you go to pulleys and the like, the didnan pump in the tank can put out more pressure, and the regulator then can keep increasing the fuel pressure with boost.

It's just one way to skin a cat. You can also use larger injectors to do the same thing. But this time, you have to change the injector on time with increased boost. 6 of one, half dozen of the other....

I'm sure that the tune they provide is set up to use the increased fuel pressure, so if you want to deviate from what Dinan does as thier kits, do it only after you talk to Dinan and your tuner. Dinan, more than many, really do sell packaged kits that are integrated together. This has some benefits, and some constraints.

Matt

Loud enough to have numerous people ask "What's wrong with your car?" Kinda like when you hear a car go by with a squealing fan belt that makes you cringe and go "Jesus!"...
