Drivetrain The greatest combo to make hp increase!
#1
#2
The best combo is a large stack of Franklins and Grants. I have a 15% pulley (the cheapest way into more HP), Alta CAI, and a Milltec exhaust. This combo will add at least 20WHP+. Just around the corner for my 04 MCS will be an Alta larger IC and a Unichip. This will put me well over 200WHP.

That's not the right question...

While I have a Unichip and like it I have ridden in MTH and GIAC cars and they perform very well and can save you money. I think it depends on how far down the "mod" trail you are going to go. the more mods the more the flexibility of the Unichip comes into play. IMO

Remind me not to race you on the way down to the dragon in a couple weeks, Z.
My setup:
15% alta, Pilo CAI, Magnaflow, Spec Stage 1 clutch, M7 lightweight flywheel (a must have), Denso Iridium plugs and UNIchip. I estimate 200 crank hp, but also a higher 190 or so whp due to the flywheel. Maybe. Haven't dynoed it.

There are two main sources for adding a Turbo to the MCS.
When considering this upgrade you don't want to upgrade the supercharger pulley, intake, or exhaust header since these are removed/or left stock when the turbo is installed.

And from Helix13 (call eric at 1-877-HELIX13 for more info)
HELIX Psi-Fi TurboKompressor kit
http://helix13.com/html/products/pro...ew.php?p=6&h=m
* Uses a Garrett GT28rs turbocharger: a twin ball-bearing, oil and water cooled unit capable of flowing more than 350hp.
* Controlled by a Turbosmart eboost boost contoller/boost gauge and pod.
* User controls waste gate actuation and electronically select boost levels.
* A "newly" designed custom cast exhaust manifold, warranteed for five years feeds the turbo.
* Cast manifolds are much less likeley to fail over the long run in turbo applications.
* Stainless steel 2.5 inch downpipe with integrated catalytic converter allows the car to run closed loop operation with no oxygen sensor "trickers".
* Charge pipes are 5 layer reinforced silicon tubing with integrated Turbosmart blow-off valve.
* Turbo gurus from Psi-Fi motorsports designed fuelling, timing, and optional AquaMist controlling. Psi-Fi PowerPaq computer which is capable of real-time tuning, controls the 500cc injectors.
* All lines, fittings and fasteners are of Porsche quality.
The HELIX TurboKompressor kit is only available for installation at their Philadelphia facility.
Dyno graph is of the TurboKompressor kit in its most basic form, running a peak boost of 21.5 pounds, versus a popular similarly priced tuning kit available nation-wide. All testing was done on our Mustang MD-250 dyno.
$4800 for parts and about 12 hours labor to install.

-----------------------
From a strictly performance (power) standpoint the turbo kit is a good option for those on a BIG budget and a heavy addiction to power. You'll save a little not upgrading pulley, intake, and header before adding the turbo so that is a plus ($1600 saved).
More power doesn't mean faster- we see plenty of very powerful cars out on the track/autocross and few do as well as a balanced MINI tuned for a combination of "enough power", excellent handling, better traction, with safety and comfort upgrades.
This balance doesn't come cheap but to get full use out of a performance oriented MINI, it is key.
Enough power-
Minimum would be a reduction pulley- 15% to 19% depending on your acceptance of risk, Larger fuel injectors 380cc or more (Bosch or JCW is OK),
and ECU software tuned or tunable for the selected size reduction pulley (Unichip, MTH, GIAC, etc- do your homework, prices vary and so does support/warranty/ease of installation). Also add some sort of intake (M7 AGS, alta, pilo, madness, JCW, Dinan, BMP, etc) and some cat-back exhaust (milltek, Borla sport/street, Magnaflow, UUC, scorpion, Alta, Quicksilver, etc). That's it. For under $3000 installed you get about 190-200 Whp (results vary)
Alternatively you can look at staged performance kits from MINImania or M7
http://www.m7tuning.com/m7packages.html
Or for Cosworth tuning packages ($3519 or $4699)
http://www.m7tuning.com/cosworth.html
You'd want suspension upgrades to allow for better handling
and a limited slip differential to aid with traction (Quaife or order the LSD option from the factory if you have a new '05 MCS with manual transmission)
You can spend alot more on other upgrades but you'll have the bulk of the benefits with the least spent with the above.
A turbo kit for the MCS (with cat back exhaust) will cost about $6000 installed and provide about 260+ Whp.

I'm not going to be racing on the way down, it will get too hot.. i'm working some issues out right now with the heat here.. If I can't take Vader i may fly down, or take the 47' Chevy.. I got mine off of detroittuned website.. go to www.detroittuned.com for more info
Edit: Minihune, the SPI kit doesn't not replace the supercharger pulley.. i have the stock one from the factory.

OH YOU ALL KNEW WHAT WAS COMING!!!!
lemme just get this zipper up *ziiiiiip*, ok flamesuit on.....
These are IMHO, CONSERVATIVE estimates for HP with mods. The 200hp plan offers a very significant change for less than $800.
Recipe for 170 FWHP (200 Flywheel HP)
EXHAUST:
$200 for the OBX header from ebay as seen here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=36431
Install how to:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ead.php?t=5403
$60 for the "one ball" exhaust mod. They chop off one muffler. This could be
done locally.
Cost= $260
PULLEY:
Full 15% pulley (use 15% for reliability) DIY install instructions with pictures. Also something to note,
Randy at webb will loan the tool to remove the pulley for free when you buy
a pulley from him : )
Install how to:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ead.php?t=8466
Cost= $120
Alta lightened crank pulley (3% Oversized). Reduces rotating wieght by 6#'s.
Cost= $150
ECU:
Buy the MTH Software and cable set.
There is a full thread about this on NAM :
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t=37383&page=1
Cost= $140
IGNITION:
One heat range colder NGK spark plugs.
Cost= $10
INTAKE:
"Hot air intake". Use the RU-1540 and small breather.You can also use the RC-1540 which has a chrome top.
Cost= $60
TOTAL COST= $740
TOTAL HP= 45hp
That's $16.27/hp
