Alta v Milltek cat back for MCS: which one?

Hi guys, just looking for some feedback on the Milltek and Alta cat back zorsts for the Cooper S. I've been able to find plenty of good things said about the Milltek on MINI2.com, but am hoping to get some input into the Alta option. Both sound pretty good, so any good feedback on the Alta may just confuse me more, but please post away.

TIA

Liam

Milltek All The Way

If your quest has led you to decide between the Milltek and the Alta exhausts, well, the decision is easy:

1) The Milltek has a better sound, has more HP and Torque associated with its use;

2) Most importantly, your mini won't feel lopp sided........

About the only drawback I have heard from Alta owners is the different rate at which the tips discolor during use. Because one of the tips is farther away from the muffler, it gets used less.

Hope this helps !

Can't say enough about Milltek.

I really like the sound and the look is great too. Best looking tips this side of the JCW exhaust.

The Alta exhausts I have seen look crooked. It seems to be hard to make the tips look level. The only big plus to the Alta is weight savings. I have a Milltek and I have been very happy with it. It makes a noticable difference in power and sounds great ( without being too loud). I really like the tips too.

1. Elcorrectomundo

2. Is the weight enought to feel??

I have the Milltek and I love it.

I want MORE HP.

The weight savings is not enough to feel. I only brought it up because it was the only plus to the Alta. If weight was the only thing I was after I would just do the one-ball mod and save the money. I got the Milltek because it was the best for power and torque and the sound was just what I was after. The look is clean too. The mufflers tuck up in the bumper so they aren't so visible and all you see is the great looking tips. The Milltek also has absolutely no drone, which was a problem on my last too aftermarket exhausts. You can't go wrong with the Milltek. I would recommend Randy at Webb Motersports, that's where I got mine.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The comment on the discolouration of the tips is something that would drive me barmy, so props for that.

Milltek it is then I guess.

Erm, what do you guys know about Jetex Exhausts?

I have a Miltek and the Miltek header and my car sounds great (imo). I am happy with the performance as well. I had a Borla street which is nice but the Miltek seems to open the engine up a bit more.

I have a Milltek en route from Webb Motorsports; ALTA™ wasn't even on my radar when I made my choice.

My vote goes to the Milltek. I just installed one on my 2005 MCS and the sound it makes is absolutely amazing. The fit and finish on the kit is perfect (as there's no need to modify anything in order to install it - it simply bolts right up) and the slash-cut tips (just like the ones on the JCW exhaust) look awesome sticking out the back of your MINI.

Hey minigolf, I'm keen on this Milltek too. Did you speak to Tim's reseller in NZ about prices? With shipping & customs charges to OZ it could still be fairly expensive! The only other place I know of that sold them was QSZ (I think) in Melbourne - I might contact them for a price quote. Do you know of any other places that stock the Milltek in OZ?

I have a milltek header and catback system. I love the sound, it's has a low tone and is not too load. IMHO, you can't go wrong with milltek.

Looks plus sound

I went with the Remus exhaust, it looks great, sounds wonderful, fit up was easy, and could really feel the difference. Also the skid pan on the bottom of the battery box fits.

QSZ ask AU$1995 for Milltek, I have a price list from them if you'd like it. (PM me your email addy on MINI2.)

I reckon through Tim's NZ connection a Milltek could be sourced under the QSZ price.
