Drivetrain The Official ALTA AccessPORT Thread
I get my AP tomorrow, which I bought off ebay and has been unmarried and ready to go. My question is my 07 R56 S hasn't been to the dealership in almost four years. I'm assuming i'm pretty behind on ECU updates which I don't mind, if i'm so far behind do I need to worry about updating the firmware on the AP?

Or wait to install your AP until you get the update.
Is this still available from Alta? I can't seem to find it on their website, if not how are you guys finding tunes and stuff like that?
I have been working with Chris from ALTA and Jeff from Perrrin for maps and support. They have been awesome.
OK got the tune load onto the car. Stage One non TPS on 92 octane, I can only run 93 octane here in RI though. Power is amazing but I'm experiencing the bouncing idle which is not terrible but noticeable.
Since ALTA is no longer making the AP's, what's the next best thing out there for someone wanting to "tune" their car that doesn't have access to a chassis dyno? Does anyone else make something like this that will log your data, and then allow you to send the data off and have a custom tune made for your car?
I had an idle bounce problem and Chris and Jeff sent me a map. It cured the idle bounce, but the throttle seemed "surgy", not really progressive. Since I was going to install a FMIC and change the map, I didn't ask them to fix it. I'm sure they would have. My FMIC map has a slight idle bounce, but I'm inclined to live with it, although I just installed the FMIC this weekend and my feelings may change.
OBD II that reads super knock codes?
The AP indicates that I am throwing super knock codes, even with stage 0. I'd like to take it to the dealer and have them look at the problem, But to ready it for the dealer, I have to uninstall the AP, which clears the codes. Since the codes are intermittent, I don't know when the code is definitely there to take it in. So I bought a generic OBD II reader and use Torque with it, but it does not pick up super knock codes. I have read that the Bavarian Technic reader will do it, but it is $275. Does anyone know of a cheaper unit that will do the job?
Custom tune for $75 or RMW
Has anyone done the custom tune that Alta offers for $75? What does this involve, doing a log dump? Or is it more involved?
I have an 09 MCSa and originally had a pronounced lurching/jerky shifting issue. The map they sent: -MCSa Stage 1 FMIC 91oct H910B Rev1.ptm helped quite a lot. However under load the car still shifts jerky. Its like the torque is not matching up with when the car shifts, if that makes sense.
I know Jan also can tune MCSa's. Anyone had good sucess with RMW tuning an automatic?

I am interested in this as well. I have the same issue where shifting is almost impossible to match up. It isn't a clutch ride, it just is smoother wihtout the tune. I noticed the difference when switcing back the the stock map. I would say surge is a good word for it
Can anyone from alta chime in perhaps with some tips or advice?

I've got a tune that I am happy with, but I have 92 octane gas around here, and I am currently running without a FMIC. The point is that there is probably a map that does better than the one that you are using now. Mine is rev 6_3 from April 2012.
If you want to PM me your email, I will send you the map that I have to see if this is better for shifting.

If other people are getting rough idle fixes, I want one too! Running 91 octane stage 1 automatic. I think ecu is H910b or something like that. If you guys could do something with the shifting too it would be great, but I don't think the AP controls that. thx
Edit: Like post a few above, it only happens when pushing hard. Also alot of cutting when you push the throttle and it downshifts in non sport mode.

The AP has the ability to affect the smoothness of the shifting. The map that I am using still has idle issues (high idle when cold, some surge when at a stop light), but neither of these issues bother me. For me, it is about smooth shifts and the great boost in torque.
Chris, can you chime in here? Is it possible to release an updated/'better' tune for autos on your website? I'm happy with mine (92 oct, rev 6_3).

It is not just Autos that have this problem. I have a 2007 MCS Manual and had the surging rpms while shifting under torque since the start of using the AP. Now I'm using MCS Stage 1 FMIC 91oct H520B and still have the problem. I've sent logs to Jeff, but no response for some time.
I use Sport mode always, and get a bounce in idle occasionaly and touchy peddle response but that's ok. The real problem is the rpms keep going up after pushing in the clutch when under boost so when the higher gear is engaged the car jurks or surges forward (unless you deliberately wait until the rpms drop which is a stupid thing to have to do). You probably have a different effect from an Auto but the same root problem.

Just got mine today. Idle is fine everything is in order I reflashed my 07 MCS earlier.
Big difference is power delivery is much more smoother definitely feel more torque and hp increase.
I have an intake and mid cat/res removed the AP recorded 16.7psi

Quick question - We have 93 here in Jersey, but when I travel out of state this summer, should I switch the map to 91 before traveling out of state, in case other states don't have 93? How will this affect the car? eg. if I have 93 in the car now, then switch the map to 91, what issues could I experience?
Do some of you with just buy the AP with a no absolutely no knowledge of anything! You should probably learn what the octane number means. Then make decisions yourself instead of listing to people on the Internet. That being said be extremely careful running the best commercially available gas could cause some issues.
