I'm seeing similar with the stage 1 tune. 15 lbs sustained and peaks to 16.5 lbs. But no more from my mods. I would need to get downpipes to get the stage 3 tune to get more boost.

Not sure why you guys are boosting hard before the engine warms up...!
Thats not a good idea, oil lubricates as expected when its at operating temperature, not when cold. Engine components, expand and contract with heat, all in all, a bad mixture with extra stress on the engine/quick expansion of parts with under average lubrication, with many other factors. Your engine is probably hesitating because its struggling to produce the power under 15+ lbs of boost without being at operating temperature.

Its a mixture that will cause problems in the future. Others opinions may differ, just my 0.02. I never push my car until its fully warmed up. I hate that MINI didn't include an oil press/temp/ water temp gauge in the car... as those help decipher when the car is warmed up. Usually 4-6 minutes of city driving for water temp, about 10 for oil to be at optimal temperature to be safe.

Oh, and to add, I don't have any hesitation. I can see my water temp from my PLX digital gauges. Actually, I have 1 digital gauge showing just water temp. So i watch it very closely. And I do let the motor warm up a bit before even pulling out. At least 100 deg for water temp before driving off. And I never boost till after the few minutes after that.

Sounds like you're throwing a hidden code. Bring it to autozone and scan it, not all limp modes throw codes. This sounds pretty similar to symptoms of a p112b, but could be a number of things.

Choochike,
You should be seeing more boost that 15psi at lower RPM. But at upper RPM's 15psi could be normal depending on a few conditions. Also gear makes a difference. For instance in 1st gear or 2nd gear, it will be hard to hit boost targets as there is less load on the engine. but 3rd on up shoudl have no problem!

Also 91 maps have less boost compared to the others, but i think you told me in an email that you are on a 93 map. Send me a data log (3rd gear floored from 1500 to legal speed limit) and we can see what is going on. LATER!

No, I'm on 91 maps. I'll get something logged and send it out.

Just wanted to throw my 2cents in here. Bought the Auto version for my wife's 09 MCSa. It's going to be a christmas present (but wanted the $100 off)...so she doesn't know about it, but I had her car today so I couldn't resist flashing it to see how it felt.

And man, it REALLY wakes the car up!!! She's going to LOVE IT! Heck, I loved it....what started as a quick 5 minute test drive, turned into a 30 minute joyride :-).

The only bad part?? I had to then "uninstall" the AP to return it to stock...and put it back in the box to be opened/used on December 25th. :-(

*Note, her car is stock except for an Alta intake....so I flashed it with the 92 octane Stage 1 tune*

Nice that your wives "get it". My policy with my wife on mods to my mini is more like "don't ask, don't tell"

First thing my wife wanted to do when I put the Pulley on my MINI was race me with hers, HAHA I beat her, but once she gets her Christmas present I think I'll be getting spanked.....especially from all that torque!

Geez I'm out of the loop, just saw this thread.

Got my AP yesterday, and enjoying it so far, thanks to Chris for answering any questions. Was sent 4 maps, running the 91octane MAP so far, and have hit well above 19psi according to the AP with an AFR ~13.7 at WOT. More to come.

Same here but my wife sure enjoys it. "Your mini has SO much power" even though she doesn't use half of it.

FYI, the Auto stage 1 tune was a blast today on a rally through North Jersey. As per my Alta boost gauge, I saw 16 lbs sustained boost numerous times on wide-open-throttle runs with peaks to 17 lbs. Extremely happy with how the car performed today.

Saw you had/have JCW stage 1 tuning. How would you compare vs. the Alta tune?

The JCW stage 1 tuning kit was only making 12 lbs sustained boost with peaks to 14.5 lbs with the same mods. And the power delivery was less smooth. So the Alta stage 1 tune is way more fun.
