Drivetrain The Official ALTA AccessPORT Thread
Few questions, I have a stock '09 JCW that I will be making some upgrades to in the near future. Can I run the stage 2 tune with the stock JCW exhaust, CAI and FMIC? Would it be safe? If I should only do stage 1, how much to get the stage 2 after the initial purchase of the accessport?
Thanks
Thanks
We do have a map to match exactly. But it wouldn't be the Stage Two map. We have LOTS of mapping combinations that aren't shown online, so when you order the AccessPORT, or a Performance Pack we will confirm all your details, driving style, location etc. before sending you the map that is exactly what is best for you.
If you start with one level and move to the next we will always update your mapping to match as well as help with combo pricing.
Hope that helps and I look forward to hearing how much you love the new power!
I remember in earlier posts about people wanting to have their pop and burble back. They were saying that they lost it when they ran the AccessPort. Maybe it is because I have a JCW, but with my tune I still have pop and burble.
+1
To help keep this thread on topic, several posts about comparing options were given their own thread:

Just an update. I have been running an Alta stage 3 map for about 9 months now and love it. We have put down 8 laps around the Nurburgring and Recently attended the Worthersee VW Tour with no issues. While at Worthersee I got the car on a dyno and put down 230PS/335NM (227WHP/247WTQ) which I am very happy with. I was hoping for around 210WHP and 230WTQ.

At a dead stop, clutch in, press gas to 3500rpm... Let'r rip. pretty fun but not the best for the clutch.
All of our maps turn off a P0420 code now, so you will be good with our maps, thanks!
reflash to fix wierd problem?
Hey guys...I've got this wierd problem. Monitoring MPH tops out at 64.3 MPH. Everything else is normal as far as I can tell. The logs don't appear to be affected. I don't know when this started, but I did update my AP's ROM a few weeks ago and it may have been then. So I'm wondering if a reflash is in order. But I don't know how to go about forcing it to reflash, since "check for updates" will only say that I'm up to date. Thoughts?
jrettew,
Try reflashing the car with the same map. You may have flashed the car with an older flash, and updated the AP, but not updated the flash. An update isn't applied until it's flashed on the car.

I know this has been asked and argued about a bunch of times but there's one thing I haven't read. If we have an exhaust that might not be up to par for stage 2/3 then what undesirable symptom should we look for when testing the tune?
I just installed the obx cat less down pipe and mid pipe and connected it to the stock resonator and mufflers. I have a clubman so after the split the size should be fine but the stock resonator and about a foot or more of stock single pipe are involved. I have a helix intercooler so I could run stage 3 if the exhaust was enough, so maybe stage 2 if its not quite up to par?

I wrote about the issue a few times when i first go it. But never got it figured out...
Really with those modifications, you have to run a stage 1 FMIC map. The stock exhaust is tiny, any won't be able to flow enough exhaust to be able to use the stage 2 and stage 3 maps. Remember, we made those maps on a car with a 3" turbo back with high flow cats.
Could send me an email at maps@altaperformance.com with your ECU and transmission type? That will be the first step to get this figured out.
