Drone is very subjective....but there is quite a bit.

It's not bad driving around town, and you will not notice the drone, but if you do a lot of interstate driving...say for 1+ hr trips...you will DEFINITELY notice how much it drones. I did a trip from Phx up to the mountains in Flagstaff (like a 2 hr drive), and it was crazy loud. I love it though

It was so bad, I sold the damn thing after a week. It was HORRIBLE from 2K to 3.5K and anytime you step on the gas at 3K. It drowns out the radio.

Maybe it would be better if you welded the slip fit connections.

And yes it wasn't touching anything and was mounted correctly.

My guess is you had leaking joints if it was that bad, with stock dp....

I am thinking the same. Mine sounds really nice up to about 3k (a little over 70), then it will drone when you get on the gas for a hill. But overall 70 - 75 is fine for crusing. But, this has to be an individual taste, and everyone is different.

richardsperry - did you go back to stock or try something different?

Sorry to turn the conversation for a second, but when you get it welded, do you keep the clamps on the exhaust?

Also, do you recommend a few "spot" welds to keep it in place or should I have him go all the way around the pipe?

the spot welds will set up the exhaust for fitment/alignment. Then it should be welded together as one unit.

Thank you! Is that with the clamps on or do you not need them anymore when welded?

Clamps are no longer needed as you are fusing the metals together. You need to lift the car mach up the fitment then spot weld, then remove from the car and fully weld.

Any Invidia dealer could get if for you, like, Touge Tuning in Ontario. They dont list Mini parts, but I have order many subaru parts from him (chris). Maybe $45 shipping top you in NS too.

Or go onto Invidia's website and locate a dealer in Canada.

You don't need any really lol

Go look under the car and it will be very self explanatory. Unbolt the flange at the downpipe/catback connection. Then take off stock exhaust. Put new one on, starting at the front, dont tighten the joints till you check the alignment at the back. When its satisfactory, tighten and go drive!

Read this thread ... there are a lot of good pointers but basically, get your car up high enough you can get under it and you can see what to do from there. Rust buster on the bolt for the clamp on the down pipe (up front). A small gear puller and a little grease to remove the rubber hangers and you are good to go. There are 3 sections of pipe. Put them all together on the car and lightly tighten the clamps except the one on the down pipe (that should be resonably tight). Then get out from under the car and look at where the tips are. Are they straight? are they touching the bumper? If you need to make corrections, then you will need to rotate the center section and maybe slide two section together to shorten the length. But take your time at this. Once it is where you want it, tighten the clamps. Make sure the clamps are at the ends of the pipes so they tighten over the slots (you'll see).

then drive...It will smoke a lot at first but that is the way it is. Do your first couple of hards drives away from traffic as someone might call the fire department .

then enjoy.

Thanks Eddie07s, I did it without any instructions only problem is that the exhaust is slowly sliding out, and the stock black plate underneath makes a rattling noise. Did anyone else have this problem or did you guys not put the plate back on? Responses to both would be great.

What I did was to loosen the joint behind the plate and put a small hydraulic jack, with a block of wood, under the pipe at that joint. Then I took a piece of wire and wired the pipe at the front end of the plate to the the plate. Then raised the jack to "bend" the pipe at that joint. Then tightened the clamp really tight. This took several tries, but it has stayed put for a year and a half now, with just the clamp. No banging against that black plate.

this was after rotating the middle pipe so that the tips were centered and not touching the bumper.

Well that's not the primary problem anymore, the exhaust slowly sliding out is. My dad tightened the hell out of the clamps, as hard as he could, and we went out for a 10 minute drive and it came out roughly 1". I want to get it welded, but it would cost quite a bit and there would be no way of going back.

Wow, that’s a new one. Thermal growth will move them a little, but I have not seen an inch. And it will move back once it cools.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

To ask the obvious…the clamps were around the part of the "outside" pipe where the slots are? Once tight you should not be able to move the pipes.

I'm not sure, it's not moving anymore from what i've seen. I'll keep my eye on it for now, but my Dad's getting it professionally welded, so soon it won't be a problem. Thanks Eddie!

1st I want to say that I am new to custom exhaust systems. My last experience with one was about 12 years ago when I added one to my f150 and I had it removed right away due to the interior noise level. I really like the sound of this exhaust in the sound clips but I am worried about the volume inside the car. I drive most of the time under 80. I am looking for something I can still hold a conversation inside the car without having to yell if you got me. Any ideas if this one will fit the bill and if not do you know of any exhaust ideas to gain some mild sound without killing the inside comfort? Thanks

Hello, good thread, answered alot of my questions. Still have a few though. Primarily, how much does it garble and pop? Also, I noticed it is far cheaper then other exhausts (alta, miltek, supersprint, etc.) and was wondering if anyone knew why.

thanks

It would be best if you could find someone in your area with one who would be willing to give you a ride...

My personal exerience is...my wife likes it and we can carry on a conversation and I can listen to the radio at highway speeds. It does get a little loud going up hill, but it is what I would call mellow on the flats. But that is just me...there are others who think it is a little too boomy. However...that is just me (us)...don't know what is too loud for you.

The JCW and Borla exhausts are probably a little quieter.
