ThumperMCS - just intalled mine and I must say that while your video is a good, doesn't do this exhaust system justice...the Invidia exhaust sounds way better in person than that (at least through the tinny speakers in my laptop). I will say if you want LOUD, this is not the system for you. If you want a system that sounds really good, cruise at 60-70-80 without it driving you out of the car, this is it. At WOT it has a great bark But you still be able to sneak back home without waking anyone important if needed. As everyone has said, it bolts right up, but be careful to push all the pieces (there a 3 pieces to fit up) in place so the tips don't stick out to far and to align everything before tightening the clamps. I didn't and the tips were off center and it took a bit to get it straightened out. All in all, a great system

I know, I agree, unless you have a good set of computer speakers with a sub, you won't hear what it sounds like at all!

It will get louder my friend.....lol, theres definitely no sneaking around for me. Whenever I go over to my parents or friends houses, they all say they can hear me coming from far away. I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building and you can hear my car pulling into my 1st floor garage (which isn't even directly below me), in my bedroom with the windows closed

Well, this installation didn't go quite as smooth as it first seemed. I now have a rattle/banging. When I first tightened everthing, it is fine. Turn it off, let it cool, restart, it bangs against the plate that goes under it . Interestingly enough, the banging goes away after it gets hot. I have had to jack it in place to get it to be in place but it doesn't seem to want to stay. Any thoughts out there

I had the same issue on mine. Tightened the clamps but still would have the problem. Finally ended up just welding the mid pipe and muffler section together...off the car of course. No more problem. If you go this route make sure you align everything so you have plenty of clearance, tighten down the mid pipe to muffler clamp and then pull those two sections from the car for welding. Leave the front section(down pipe to mid pipe) in place. Weld the back sections together and reinstall into the front pipe slip joint and tighten the clamp. Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Thanks, good advice. I have been thinking along the same line. But I took one more shot at it and moved the center pipe back a bit so the elbow is a little futher away from the plate - about 1 further back. I might have had the elbow bend too close to the plate. Then jacked the pipe up at the rear muffler junction and tightened the clamp. So far it has held. I have a little over 1/4" clearance now and I have logged several trips in it, so hopefully with those heatup and cooldown cycle if it was going to move, it would have already. If not the welder is coming out....

I should point out, that while this has been an annoying little problem, the system is really pretty good. First off the clamps are great. I have loosened and retightened them several times and have been able to move the pipe each time. I would have been screwed with the usual type of clamps that crush the pipe . While they seemed to have slipped, that may have been me not having tightened them enough. However, I will take that over not being able to make adjustments after it is assembled. I have tightened them a bit more now and it seems rock solid, one piece. Second, the slip-fits are set up with enough take-up room that I was able to make the adjustments without changing how the tips hangout.

I am considering an Invidia catback and an exhaust depot downpipe to go along with the Alta AccessPort tune, however which one of these exhaust depot downpipes should I get?

http://www.exhaustdepot.net/costudo.html

http://www.exhaustdepot.net/exder56do.html

As far as I can tell the first one will throw a CEL and second one will not, however that does not really matter to me as you I will be able to clear the CEL with the AccessPort.

They will definately hear You coming
The Q300 gives the Mini a great sound and is not too loud (to my tastes) in an otherwise stock car. The Q300 by itself results in a noticable power change without the DP.

The second down pipe (exder56do.html) has the cat in it the first does not. If you are looking at clearing the CELs, that will only be temporary and you will likely be doing it all the time. You also won't be able to pass emissions if your state has a test or some sort of check. While it may not be a big deal to you, but living downwind of you, I would prefer that you get the cat one; each car makes a difference. My guess the one with the cat will produce close to the same power as the one without, which is why they put the big cat in .

BTY - The market place has (had?) a Q300 for sale; good price.

has anyone mated a OBX downpipe with the invidia q300 exhaust? I searched for results and haven't found any downpipe to mate with the invidia... looking for some more power prior to accessport

Sounds like you have been reading my problems. Really this may have been partly my fault as I didn't check everything before tightening the clamps. It fits nicely to the stock down pipe using the same connection as the stock exhaust. However, be careful making the connection of the middle pipe to the rear. I put the front and rear sections in first because they are on hanger. The center section then slid nicely in place. Pay attention to the side the clamp-bolts are on. Mine had more clearance with the bolts on the right side of the car. This is what I was not careful with - Before tightening the clamps too tight go out and check how the exhaust tips are aligned in back. What they don't tell you is that the slots in the pipes where the clamps go should be basically up and down. However, because of the bends in the center pipe you can change the alignment of the tips by rotating the center pipe a little. Also, make sure the tips don't hang out to much. All pretty simple changes if you haven't crushed the pipes, but nothing you can do after you TIG it or really tighten the clamps.

On mine, I needed to push up hard on the center to rear pipe joint while I had the other end of the center pipe wired to the body plate before tightening the clamp so it would high enough to clear the body plate. It took several tries and now seems to be ok. It seems that it can slip over time and drop down, so I really cranked down on the clamp the last time.

Also, a little heat on the nut on downpipe clamp will save that if it is rusted.

Why would an exhaust have anything to do with the intake tract and boost pressure leaking?

Let me rephrase, I get an exhaust leak at anything above 16-17 lbs. at high rpm. Unless it is just the sound of the exhaust which i doubt. i have a feeling the vband isn't seated straight. i think im gonna have to lift and reseat it. I used a new vband too with the new gasket.

I have a slight whistle at some point with near to WOT. I assumed that it is from the slots in the pipe at the band clamps in the mid section not the Vband. The ends of the pipe have slots in them that the band clamps can't quite seal. I have also seen a little carbon trace coming from there (indicating a leak). That is where I would look. A test would be to wrap a piece of aluminum tape around the pipe at the ends and reclamp them. The tape probably won't last long but probably long enough to tell if that is it.

Then again after all of the rock concerts that I have been to I can hardly hear it and my wife has not complained so I have not worried about and, ya, my wife likes the Invidia, she's a keeper

If it is an exhaust leak, it probably doesn't really matter where in the map you are at. At what point you hear it is probably more a function of the exhaust pressure (caused by the boost). You can probably find a leak by just checking the joints while the car is at idle and feeling for air coming out. I would still check the slots at the front end of the center section of the exhaust pipe and the front end of the rear section.

I don't hear anything but the sound of joy under high boost...haha run 20-21psi here.

My Invidia does leak at idle however...it comes from the joint between the mid and rear section. Always has...but you can only hear it at idle, especially when u shut the car off. It needs some high temp silicone sealant at the joint and it would be fixed right away....never have gotten around to it though, doesn't really bother me.
