The proper turbo sizing for a 300whp streetable MINI is the GT2560R, but I wanted to put something on that could "push" the internals a bit. Jan and I will be working on engine management to optimize power and driveability. Development takes time, and he did a tremendous job tuning the factory ecu with the limited amount of dyon time. I prefer more control and will be working on stand alone management. PM me for details and more discussion since I believe you have looked into this solution already.
Understood; the GT2560R will be a fantastic choice for a very quick street and racetrack MINI; dragstrippers will want a larger turbo like what Jan is running

If the stock ECU can be used to the fullest extent Jan will do everything in his power to make it work as seamless as possible. I'll shoot ya a PM.

As for room in the engine bay....not much there for anything much bigger than a 35. I'm having serious clearance issues with the t3 3071, as in I cant put it where I want to due to it not fitting without pushing the firewall back. I just cant get my pipe clearance, so I went to a totally different configuartion. Its sitting low and upside down under the firewall similar to an extended ramhorn style manifold, but I have plenty of clearance now, just a pia to get to all the oil/h20 lines, which I was really trying to avoid.

As for the cracked headers...thats what happens when you use tubing and not schedule 10 pipe to weld up your manifolds. It only took me a lil researching outside of the MINI world to figure that out, not to mention the lack of back gassing the inside of the manifold during welding, resulting in poor weld joints inside the manifold...they all cracked from the inside out & there were 4 of them that failed by myself.

on the EJ257 Suby motors....GT35 is the 'big-boy' for street. I can't imagine using much more than a GT32 on the Tritec unless you've done the stroker kit.
anti-lag is fine for the engine..it just shortens trubo life!

yeah Evo gusy are the same. some are running MASSIVE turbos but the GT35 seems to be an amazing turbo. Even the V8 guys are using them now.

the only problem withthe GT32 is they are mot ball bearing cores.

Cheers

Chris.

Anti lag is hard on the motor... especially the valve train... but yes also the turbo and manifold

if the Turbo is NOT ball bearing then it's not GTxxxx it's only Txxxx

turbos used to just go by GTxx but now there are so many variations with in each they have started using the full designations.

IE GT35 can now be
GT3571
GT3582R
GT3582R
GT3582R

I believe if you go to www.turbobygarrett.com it has to do with the different trims

The A/R's are slightly different.

lemme try that again

GT3571
GT3582R .63 a/r
GT3582R .82 a/r
GT3582R 1.06 a/r

all of which classify as a 35R

same with the smaller turbos we use now

GT28
GT2854R
GT2860R
GT2860RS <------disco potato!
GT2871R
GT2876R

most of which have a few different trims available...

but my point was to just say 35R nowa days or GT28r etc doesnt mean much... cuase technically I have a GT28r which people might think is smaller than the GT28rs.... when in fact cause of the rest of the designation it's larger...

So is this thread signaling the end of the Rotrex? If someone is going to modify their car to this extent, "non-turbo to turbo"/ M45 to Rotrex, why not go to just a turbo? They seem to produce more output than the Rotrex. Plus, either way they won't pass a visual smog cert. in California. I am getting completly lost in all this engine mod. stuff . I still don't understand how these cars will pass smog here in California . My gosh, they say my Alta intake wont pass . PM if you have any info. to share .

actually, this is about educating and providing the MINI community with well engineered and reliable performance options and upgrades covering all levels of modification. fortunately for all of us, the MINI brand and versatility of the platform has given us an unique opportunity to allow us creative freedom in designing and configuring components and assemblies.

this also signals a reunion of sorts - the original team of like minded and extremely dedicated and talented individuals that will stop at nothing in order to create the most comprehensive catalog of MINI performance products and accessories that the community has ever seen.....
