It's been a while, so I'll be the impatient one this time

Any news? I'm really considering this system. This stuff is always an analysis paralysis situation for me. I'll read these forums until my eyes bleed and I end up clicking "Buy" on something through the red haze.......
(Wow that was more graphic than I originally intended )

Hello NAMer's, you asked for a better tip, I pushed IE to make one, they have started the devo of the new tip and test fitted the 1st demo. I have not heard anymore from them since. I have emailed them again this morning for an update. Will let you all know as soon as I do. Thanks for keeping to in the front of our minds.

First off thanks for pushing for this for us. I'm a fan of the IE exhaust and love mine to death. I just never was a fan of the tips. Now I know they weren't designed for flash. That didn't bother me as I actually like the fact they were nothing more than 2.5 inch stainless piping. The problem I have is when people ask me why they are lopsided. One tip slightly hangs down a little lower than the other. Again, thanks for pushing for this, and I think I speak for us all in here when I say, we're not trying to be pushy, but we're all just a little excited.

tip-not-top

I'm also interested in the new tip. I just received my Ireland exhaust, and while for the most part I am satisfied with the quality, I am disappointed in the amateurish "second tip". I'm going to try and remove the ragged edges inside the tip where the hole was cut. There really is no need for the second tip other than bling, as the tip diameter is the same as the main exhaust tubing and does not present a bottleneck.

I really like the Ireland Engineering products. They are fairly priced and usually very well engineered. I've used their products for over 10 years on my BMW M2 http://web.mac.com/iandickerson/Ians..._Homepage.html and have been very satisfied on the track and on the street. Plus Jeremy and Jeff are very helpful with phone support. Hopefully, an improved tip will get this exhaust system up to their usual level of quality.

I had a chat with Jeff at IE late Monday and he is moving the project forward. The next step is to fit a "finished" demo and make sure the specs are right before making dozens of them. It's going to be slow, but we are moving forward.

Yes, you are right. I like their products as well. Like I said in another topic a long time ago, when I first received my fixed camber plates, I didn't want to install them. They looked like they should be decorating my coffee table. They were like a work of art.

I think they were just trying to keep the OEM appearance by adding the second tip. Even though it wasn't the greatest design, I will miss the metallic tornado sound at full throttle once I get the single tip.

Just wondering if anyone here has changed out their exhaust tip on the IE. I took mine to 2 local places and they wouldn't do it. they said it was not possible because of the battery location.

Well, my local shop was going to cut a notch at the base of the tip that hangs down too low, then bend it upwards to match the other tip. Then they would weld it back up with stainless welding. I'm not going to get this done now that IE is renewing the tip. If the shop is good, they wouldn't have any trouble modifying or replacing your tip. I'd try someplace else, or just wait for the new IE tip.

It should be a very simple matter to change the tip. If you look at your exhaust, the tip is essentially a 90 degree bend coming off of the muffler, and is attached to the muffler with a clamp. Unclamp the tip and bring it to any reliable muffler shop, and have them make you whatever style tip you desire, using the old piece as a template. I'm baffled why your muffler guy had any problems.

The Batt box is not an issue for the IE system.

UPDATE! We hope to have the new Big Mouth Tip ready to ship out Jan 5th.

More pics to come soon and before ordering begins.

Great news, subscribed to this thread! Do you know if we will be able to exchange dual-tip sections for the single-tip sections? For example, I just received my IE exhaust and have not yet installed it. I would gladly wait until January to install the exhaust if I could swap my uninstalled twin-tip for a single-tip.

Not a bad thought for you guys that just purchased yours. You know what Idickers? If they don't exchange it, wyh not keep it for a spare? I know I backed into a parking space one time and was surprised. If the curb had been about a half inch higher, I would have destroyed my tip. Do you know what the price estimate might be Auto X? I'll be buying mine as soon as they are available, but won't be able to install it until I get home from this deployment.

I don't think IE is going to exchange the tips. You are free to ask them.

The new tip will be under $100.00 shipped and the cost of the IE system will be going up some too.

Installing the new tip should be an easy 15 min job with just one clamp.

$100 for the tip? That is 25% of the total cat-back. As a sign of good customer support and for IE selling us a mis-aligned dual tip, we should get a discount. We were misled by the ad of easy alignment & centering in the first place. I am only willing $75 shipped as there are other options out there.

Dude, seriously, even if the tip is under $100, you still paid wayyyy less than what Alta, Borla, etc. charges for an exhaust. While I still haven't gotten any dyno info from my IE install, I expect this system delivers around the same numbers as some of the higher end exhausts. While the overall aesthetics might be kind of crude, the build quality is excellent, the sound is great, and the price is right. I'm willing to pay under $100 for a tip. I'll still have paid at least $400 less than some people paid for their high end exhaust systems. I don't think the ad was misleading. I had no trouble what so ever centering my tips. The problem I have is that one droops down lower than the other. As for other exhaust systems, my guess is that flashy tips are the reason you pay upwards of $700 for the system. From what I can tell IE has always been about performance over aesthetics, and personally that's what I prefer. As a member of the military and with a 2 year old, I can't always go out and buy Alta or M7 stuff. I appreciate companies like IE who look out for us "budget" minded people. Have you checked out prices for stainless welding? You won't get anything done to your current exhaust any cheaper than what the new tip costs. And you can't get normal welding done, or you are just wasting your time. Just some food for thought.
