Is there anyone who is running a header with this cat-back exhaust? How would you describe the sound?
1. xx% louder (approximate)
2. more burble & pop
3. any noticeable HP/TQ gains
4. drones
5. more bassy (deeper) or turned it to raspy (ricey)
6. fit and alignment.
7. what header design / brand

Thanks.

No header yet, however I plan to install one when I get back to the states in mid Feb. Hopefully by then, the new tip will be ready for purchase. I'm going to really miss the sound of the whistlin' metallic tornado this exhaust's current tip produces at WOT. Anyway, if I have the money, it will be an RMW header. If not, I'll see what decent headers are out there for "low budget" individuals like myself. Hopefully, someone can chime in on this question, and also hopefully maybe an update on the new tip...hint...hint !!

I am also waiting on the new tip look and its $ and then decide if I will just ask a machine shop to angle cut 15 degrees and shorten it starting 3/4 inch from the tip. TSW V3 lowering springs and headers are my projects this 2009.

It's been like 5 months or so since I installed my IE exhaust. After the first week I had to go to a muffler shop to replace the tips. Mine were making the whistle sound at WOT and it was SO lame! Put new tips from the muffler out and it sounds perfect. Another small issue it one hanger needs to be bent cause it keeps poping out of the rubber mount. Other than that its a nice exhaust.

You don't like the whistle. It's different, that's why I like it.

Does anyone have audio of the "Whistle"? I'll admit to being curious/clueless about the noise you're describing. Oh yeah, did I mention I'm anxiously awaiting news on this? Internet forums do not mix well with waiting! We must have EVERYTHING we want, NOW!

Ill try to explain the whistle..

When I installed the exhaust, the tip is just really one tube that they bend at a 90 degree angle.. Then it looks like they just used a torch to burn a hole in the elbow of the bend to make a "hole". From that hole they welded the 2nd "tip".. Well on mine if you looked in the tips you could see that they did a crap job of cutting out the elbow hole for the other "tip". So when I first installed it I tool it up a grade like a bat out of hell and everytime I went WOT (wide open throttle) the exhaust would exit the tips SO fast that the defect int he hole for the 2nd tip would ace like a reed of a musical instrument and make a iron tornado sound.

Yea, the cut was crude. I have to pile it to smooth out and make it a bit bigger. It actually sounded a bit better now. I personally did not hear the whistling sound yet or maybe I am just too concentrated on my driving at WOT.

Bang110, Can you please show us your new tip on the IE exhaust? It is hard to find 2.75 inches inlet in the market that's why I am leaning towards having it slashed cut and bit shorter. Thanks.

I just got installing this exhaust and think that it's great. It wasn't the tone I was looking for but it is much better than my JCW. I do have an RMW Head and header so it does sound alot louder than it would versus a stock header. The car does not sound like a 4 banger which is great. It's very very deep and not loud. I might even remove the resenator. However, it does drone alot on the hwy. I will try putting up sound clips as soonest I can.

I think the rear hanger issues are because these smaller cheaper exhaust manufacturers(OBX is what i have) arent aware of the change of hanger position by MINI. Mine was only $275 and not a true catback(i found out after i took it out of the SMALL box) the tips were way too far apart after install and after getting the tips on had them setting so high they melted my center piece on my aero kit. Its been fixed now and sounds good and only got louder after my Alta header was installed. It has a deep sound and sounds good but it is loud. Just a little info for everyone to chew on!

The Ireland is a true catback, and everything lines up right. The problem with the Ireland is the hangers aren't flanged, so they can slide back and forth in the rubber.

Can you slip a small hose clamp on the hanger after you install it? When I built the exhaust for my rally car I made the hangers long. This way they could be bent in a fashion that they could not fall out....

I cut the ends off of some vacuum caps and slipped them on to the hanger. Then I put small hose clamps over the caps and tightened them down. Doesn't move. I think you could use something like some fuel hose. I just used the caps bacause I had a whole lot of them in the garage.

Thats a good idea.. Ya the hangers on one side slip off the rubber.. Next time I will get a hose clamp and see if that keeps it up.

Ill try to get pictures of my tip. (get your mind out of the gutter)

The muffler shop I went to had a 90degree bent, double outlet tip. It was really made to be installed from the right side of a car because the tip ends have a \ shape to them.. But I wanted it so they installed it upside down and if you looked at the tips from the side they look like / .. Understand? It looks cool. I would definately get the system again but would probably find a muffler shop to do the install and tweek the little things.

I haven't heard anything yet myself. I'm tempted to call Ireland directly. I leave for home in 2 weeks and would like to have the new tip sitting at the house for me install when I return. I'll see if i can get ahold of Dustin today as he always can get answers.

Hey Guys, I'm nagging IE and IE is nagging it's supplier. We are told the parts are done and ready for IE to have, yet it's supplier as not yet delivered them. This small change to the tip and getting the wing tip into larger production have proving to be a Royal PIA. I'm still on the case and just as frustrated as the rest.
