Would it be safe to say your e30 is setup with stiffer everything? Such as springs, dampers, engine and trans mounts, etc.

I don't know of any IE Catback for the MINI having the above issue. Given that most of the IE Catback MINI owners are running softer setups.

Just slightly, yes...

Still wouldn't expect it to fail, though. Given that the MINI's design uses hangers and the e30's uses straps, though, and the fact that the e30 exhaust system is longer than the entire MINI there aren't the same stresses anyway.

What ever happened to those tips?

+1 on that. I love the 'technical' sound (to me) of this exhaust, the dimensions and materials are right and the performance/weight should be good, but my only wait on ordering is the tip status.

Hey Gang,

two things about the IE we learned today. Changing the tip, local guy made one, doesn't "seem" to change the sound of the IE. Sorry no pics of a very rough beta unit.

We also found the way to make the system STAY centered. See Pic

This is an IE Cat Back for a MINI Cooper S that would not stay centered. We bent the above hanger on the catback, see dark spot from torch, so that the rubber hanger would hang up and down not a the diagonal it was on, this causes the system to center after being moved by something or in hard corners. Takes 10 mins and you will need to readjust the tip too, but it will stay centered

Keep us/me updated. The minute the Mk. II's are ready, I'm there.

Do you recommend the inexpensive mufflers?

So what is the conclusion, do you recommend the inexpensive exhausts from e-bay or it has to be IE in order to work propely.
Thanks.

Not sure I understand the question, but I'll take a stab at it.

You can zip down to the local exhaust guys and have a one ball done for about $100.00 or have then put on a no-name or brand name muffler, but I think after the labor of fitting and such it's going to cost the same or more then an IE Catback System.

The IE Catback is a really nice system. Is it the one for you? Hard to say. It's like debating wine, women and cigars, to each their own.

The IE System is undergoing improvements and after said improvements, new tip, it will still sound cool, not ricey, and still cost much less then others.

As far as performance, that's something I can not speak to since I have not done the $1000's of dollars of testing to get dyno numbers.

Hope that helps, Dustin

10-16 Update; We have found our R53. We will have the testing done early next week and the production will start ASAP. I'll post a new announcement once the New Tip is ready to ship.

The all New Big Mouth Bass IE tip is ready to be test fitted.

We need a local IE customer with an IE catback system willing to go to IE in Duarte, California 91010 for the test fitting.

Please PM here or email me for more details. You will be rewarded for your time and team work.

UPDATE

The test fit was done, and I have seen a pic, looks nice, needs small adjustments. Hope to have it ready to ship out by the end of Nov. Once the final tip is fitted and new pics are taken I'll post them.

pics please...(front, top, & side) I hope that it does not stick out too much as the old one.

I also hope that it'll be priced affordable and discounted for us who have the IE already. Maybe, Dustin can persuade IE. I am willing to ship back my still-looking-new tip if they can re-work it to look like the Bass-mouth new tip.

Keep us posted.

IE catback

Hey guys sorry for the late post. I just had the IE catback installed for about 1 week and got to see the new tips. They still need some minor adjustments. I am really enjoying the tone of the exhaust. It isn't to loud for me and it doesn't drone out the cabin.. =) As for the new big mouth tip for those of u who like the single tip i am sure u will like it (ITS Big) Don

it is very hard for me to find a muffler tip that is short enough (and with a bend) that will not stick out too far past the apron.

i'm looking for an oval tip that will fill up the cutout. if you find one, let us know where you got it, how much it costs and post a pic

Very good news, I am looking forward to seeing this new tip, my stock exhaust is about to kick the bucket, and from what I am seeing/hearing the IE exhaust seems like the way I'll be going...

It's hard to find an aftermarket tip that is designed to come out the middle of the car and be feed from the side of the car too. Plus the the exit pipe on the IE is bigger then most aftermarket pipes. We had a local IE owner bring us a tip that we did get to work, after an HOUR of messing around and two sets of custom shims, not something I would encourage other to do.

Hang in there we'll get you something nice that you will be proud to show off too.

i bought my Invidia used and very cheap, but i love the tips! it is now like 4 or 5 years old and i think has a couple cracks on welds due to a broken hanger. so it is almost time for me to replace it and don't want to spen too much on it's replacement. please get IE to offer a simple tip design like the Invidia. I'm not a big fan of the single big oval tip which is what i'm assuming what the "Big Mouth Bass Tip" is going to look like.

I think I'd prefer keeping the 2 tip look, but I think if this new tip is 1 big one, it'll still be good. The classic Cooper S' used to have one tip straight out the back, so this wouldn't be a bad thing. Plus, a car this small looks to poseurish with 2 tips. It almost says "Look, I have a 1.6 liter engine, but I have 2 mufflers." It'll add a touch of distinctness to it with one tip. Like IE states on their website, they feel a 1500 cc engine doesn't need 2 mufflers anyway. I have always agreed with this philosophy.
