Drivetrain Official ALTA™ Q&A thread PART TWO 2nd Generation MINI
That is exactly what I have planned on mine. Any Dyno charts? How does the car feel with the new parts?

The intake and inlet pipe look and sound sweet (I never knew how loud the wooshing of the turbo could be!), and are super easy to install.
My only issue is I now have a rattle from my engine compartment.
Not exactly sure what it is, but it's like a hose or something is loose because the factory stuff it was once attached to is now gone, and it's knocking up against something when I accelerate quickly, brake quickly, or hit a large bump. It's kind of annoying. :impatient I think I'm gonna call Adam today though and see if he can help me figure it out. Other than that, it's aces!
I can't speak for the turbo inlet hose (impatiently waiting for its arrival
) but the sound of the boost tubes and CAI aren't intrusive at all. For example I can CLEARLY hear the sound and love it, but I always have to point it out for anyone else who rides in the car to recognize it. To me it's just enough sound to add a good amount of spirit to the car without it being obnoxious.

I put the intake and turbo inlet hose on yesterday, exhaust is going on in just a few minutes, and the H&Rs are going in tomorrow!

It is slightly louder though not obnoxious with general driving , but it does growl when you put your right foot down.
I too have the same rattle!

hey matt, Glad everything got there as planned on Saturday! I got your PM this morning and replied back. Should be E-Z to resolve. Call me when you can! (Or just follow the tips in the PM back.) Thanks again folks! Catching up today, so will try to answer everything ASAP! Adam@altaminiperformance.com
I got the exhaust on yesterday (HOLY CRAP it is amazing BTW!!!) and now it has a slight rattle too!
Pretty sure I didn't get stuff tightened down enough. Either that, or it's hitting the chassis bracket a tad. Should be easy enough to fix either way.
Talk to ya later!
TurboBack off center
After the install of the downpipe and catback, my mechanic noticed that the catback (right to the muffler) is sitting a bit off centre. After driving the car a bit, the muffler gets itself over to the right side, close enough perhaps to touch the black plastic on the bumper. Besides not looking good, I don't want to mess up that nice stainless with gooey black plastic.
I gave the left side of the hanger a bit of a bend to help hold it straight, but that's not working.
Seems to me it may have something to do with the downpipe install. If it's off a bit then the rest of the exhaust will be off too.
Any ideas?

There is PLENTY of adjustment in the system to accomodate for any body kit, etc., but that can also lead to mis-adjustment if not installed properly etc. DO NOT BEND HANGERS UNLESS THEY WERE DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT!!!!!
If you are having an issue at the rear valance do this:
1) Loosen the collar clamps in the rear
2) Loosen the v-band flanges (but do not remove them)
3) Hold the muffler in the desired spot and then tighten the collar clamps.
4) Then with the muffler in place, tighten the v-band clamps.
IF that doesn't work call me immediately. There should be no problem at all!
Thanks again for the business and the posts!

Each one of those joints can be rotated etc.
So if you are off at the front, you are off at the back. So from the very first v-band joint, you can have everything twisted, with which the bend in the piping, could twist the muffler off to one side. Sorry for the confusion.

There are a couple things to check (the noise is not normal) Be sure the air box mounts are pulling the air shroud as far forward as possible. Also, the clamps that secure the lower fresh air coupler to the air shroud need to be oriented such that the holding mechanism isn't up against the sound generator air tube. Or you can remove the air tube to the sound generator completely (similar to when you install an ALTA BOV) Finally, be sure the hardline leading from the valve cover toward the firewall is clear of the fresh air tube. As always PLEASE let me know how I can ever help further! adam@altaminiperformance.com
Rattle is gone! Had some time today to get under the hood and sure enough the the hard line was my problem. Thanks Adam.
My shop DID fix my exhaust rattle though. It was the stupid chassis plate.
Oh, and Winston looks SICK SICK SICK with the H&Rs!!! I'll take pics soon and throw 'em up for everyone! The ride is every bit as good as stock too, if not a little smoother. Strange.
Pretty sure that's my problem too. If Winston hadn't been in the shop getting his H&Rs installed this afternoon, I could have fixed it, but I guess tomorrow is another day.

On the ride. H&R uses a method to their madness, they change the rate within the progression, to affect ride quality. 9 x out of 10 the ride is BETTER with the H&R vs. OEM.
Thanks again!
