Not in the immediate future, but at some point. No offense to ALTA but I would feel more comfortable once its been out and people have it on their MINIs.

Agree completely with you on that. Thankfully (in a sense) it's not yet out for us MCSa drivers anyway, so I have no choice but to exercise patience.

I'm sure you'll be answering this with install stuff in the coming days, but here goes: what part of the unichip setup stays in the car?....the actual little unichip computer box, the wiring, both?

The whole kit and caboodle stays in the car all the time. (Well anytime you want additional HP!) Since it intercepts the signals and outputs modded ones, it has to be in the car at all times. Good question! Thanks for asking!

ALTA:

Forgot to ask if the ECU takes out the limiter and if you have tested your car's top speed? Just curious, I don't really go over 90mph now. Maybe that will change with the MINI.

ALTA guys,

Question regarding ECU PnP:

I am getting my new MCS with a JCW tuning kit. How does your unit work in conjunction with the reprogrammed ECU?

Also, if I were to install a FMIC with the JCW kit, what sort of gains would I get without another ECU reprogram?

Thanks in advance

^ Why go JCW if you want an ECU anyways... Its probably cheaper to do an aftermarket intake/ cat-back/ Alta ECU. My $0.02.

Well, I appreciate your 2 cents, but it really doesn't help me at all. Thanks.

Your welcome (I hope you didn't take offense, as that wasn't my intention)

Good luck

Agreed that the ALTA combo with (or even without) the ECU makes more power than the JCW for less money (not a poke at JCW guys member I have a GP myself!) but it is a better value per HP.

Now back to Darth's concern. Until I have a R56 JCW car on my dyno and test it, I can NOt say if it works properly with the existing mapping. What I can say is it SHOULD work, but we will need to change the values/mapping for the best result as well as maintain durability.

So more info coming. I have ONE local client that I need to try to get in here to work with on both subjects!

Thank you!

Question for the Alta folks, How can I determine if the turbo-back system is legal in my state? (Mass)

chili, ratt

I'm sure you are good people, but I don't even know why you guys are involved. I didn't ask for a JCW vs ALTA comparison. I asked a reasonable question directed specifically to an Alta rep. So your response to my initial question was pointless and a waste of the 20 seconds it took for you to write and me to read.

And if you thought I took offense to your response, I wasn't offended until ratt didn't like my attitude. Though like you I will not lose any sleep over it.

Cheers!

Alta mods will kick JCW kit's butt for sure. But will Alta+JCW kick Alta's butt?

You mean will the JCW intake and exhaust + Alta ECU beat all Alta parts? Or do you mean will the Alta intake and exhaust + JCW ECU beat all Alta parts? Either way I say all Alta wins hands down, regardless of the Alta + JCW combo you choose.

If I had two cents for every time someone posted their two cents, I'd be ahead of Gates and Buffet on Forbe's list.

This is a good question. Does your state require aftermarket components to meet CARB standards? If not then yes it should be legal in that state. If it requires CARB then no dice! Hope that helps! Thanks for asking! Adam@altaminiperformance.com

How do you find out if your state needs CARB certification? I am in California. I think you mentioned that your Cat-Back is legal in CA but not your Down Pipe. Is that still the case?

Thanks

California requires (as well as started) CARB (California Air Resources Board) The cat-back sit outside of their restrictions (ends at rear most catalyst). The Downpipe would have to be CARB approved to be legal in CA.

Sorry for the confusion!
