Look forward to the reply on this one But I think you'll find the answer in the Alta thread I believe from BluMini;

Top mount Intercooler Version 2.0
I mentioned this on another thread and thought I should add my .02 here.

I just did some dyno testing in Huntington Beach @ AutoWare on a Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer. My car is heavily modded for SCCA SM class.
I've heard all the noise about top mount IC's all being worthless, especially the DFIC type that I run.

Well my blumini pulled 230.2 whp on its 3rd pull and through the entire testing period my Alta V2 IC never got too hot to the touch.
I repeat, Never was my Alta V2 IC too hot to the touch. On the top or the flanges.

All present were shaking their heads in disbelief including the techs. They had never seen an air-to-air IC perform so well, especially on a HO 230 hp motor. That's more than I can say for the other built Coopers that were being tested there. They were all sporting the "other" DFIC brand. I won't mentioned any brands here but lets just say the initials were M7
The other guys DFIC type coolers were certainly not up to the task.
You could make a very nice omlete on all of them. One Cooper's DFIC in particular was so smoking hot they had to abort any further dyno testing until his heat problem could be corrected. I think he's got Alta's number.

Thanks for a great product.

Or it could be they wanted to start as stock as possible

I happened to be in California at Autoware when this dyno run took place and can testify that Blumini speaks the truth!

My neck hurt bad that day from all the head shaking...was truly surprising how cool the outlet horn was on the dyno! I am very impressed with this Alta product, although the fitment could be better and I had problems with an Alta larger top mount that has made me think more than twice about using their products again . In raw performance terms though, the V.2 topmount is the shiznitz .

I like the look of this conversion Jan. Alot . My wallet has just done a runna...

Cheers,

H

Great to see we have half of England here!

It looks like someone started this project eons ago over the pond then nothing was heard from it on Mini2. I am excited to tell you there is some great stuff coming for this project but at this moment it is hush hush til I get it in my hands.

Sorry, no can do.

All the data is RMW's to share when they see fit. I would assume once the testing and tunning gets done they will share.

Now that the kit is running, all the fine tweaking, tuning and testing needs to get done. This part takes time.

Here is the remarkable thing. I had the idea to try a Rotrex. I mentioned it to Jan and 8 weeks later it is on my car. Jan and his team did an amazing job.

I plan to be at the cars and coffee meet this Saturday for any locals who want to see it.

Most of the Rotrex mini talk was in Europe. A few people claimed they had started projects but nothing ever came of it.

The first gen rotrex had some problems. Maybe thats what scared people off.

Hey Loui, long time! I hope to have my car back on the road by July (long story) and then I can come out to some meets again How's the car? Sorry, OT...

Anyway, to correct history, AMD (now brought out by Bigboystoys) in Oxfordshire had a Rotrex on their demo MINI in late 2003 when I was up there for a dyno session. I saw the car pull 340odd crank liberal ( ) British HP. My car made 180 crank hp stock that day. They then added nitrous the following week and threw a rod that lodged into the ceiling of the dyno cell and narrowly missed taking out the guy stood over the intercooler with the extraction fan
The next time I went there, all that I could see of their demonstrator was a MINI with an effing huge hole in the bonnet and an intercooler that looked like it had been hit by a meteorite . Moral? Don't play with nitrous unless you know what ya doin!

I never heard of AMD ever selling their Stage V kit to 'real' people, so the RMW product will be the first Rotrex for the masses and a better designed product to boot

Cheers,

H

AMD Tecnik in Bicester (near BBR); they used to be big with Audis/VWs. I've just interrogated my memory and it was in fact just under 300 crank HP without the NOS ...sorry for the false excitement..I remember seeing a dyno sheet for 398 crank BHP with NOS from the run that caused the engine to grenade

Cheers,

H
