Drivetrain Project X-300
It does have a unique sound to it though and I prefer it to the sound of the Eaton. Ask Longboard of what he thinks of the sound since he is driving it daily.
Hmmmm...lose the M45 whine or (nearly) 300 HP?? Let me think....
Bryan is going to bring his car to Cars and Coffee this Saturday, there will be several first hand reports on how it really sounds.

I drove the car to work today and the sounds are very different and very cool. When taking off at slow speed you here a slight SC whistle. Once you get on it the deeper and louder the "turbo like" sound gets. Its a little hard to explain but there is allot of air moving very fast.
I will record it as soon as I can.

I did and still don't see that my question was inappropriate and in any way requests secret data disclosure. My question of when you saw the "strong" pull" via rpm as opposed to boost was for discussion only and not me trying to poo poo Jan or this project in anyway.
Centrifuge chargers (as pointed out by DocO in MCsquared) have a reputation of underperforming at the lower end and over performing at the top end (as compared to eaton type) and I was curious on what you saw on your car as it is currently set-up. Clearly pulley size will influence or determine when this "strong pull" occurs. Like with the eatons today, I expect that a variety of pulleys could be used for street, track, ect... .
I appreciate that you want to ensure that this thread doesn't get out of hand like others have on NAM but at the same time this is Board in which discussion is the objective. Perhaps the problem is that this started as a personal thread and is now a vendor thread and I didn't realize it.
So, I pose my question to Jan - in this early development stage at what RPM are you seeing the positive aspects of the Rotex kicking in. Are you seeing any of the "generic points" commented by DocO in the McScquared Articule regarding centrifuge chargers.

Great question Bart,
We are just in the infancy of the testing and until we get a tune on it we don't know which pulley we will finish with. There will be multiple setups for this application like street , street/track and track only versions with applicable injectors and tunes. Longboards car falls into the middle version so we will try and get something acceptable to both situations.
thanks for asking
Expect more data in about 2 weeks if all goes well and the right parts show up
for those that need it or miss it too much.
Now I'm giving away confidential data

Like you said, pulley diameter will probably determine where the power comes in, but from reading the Rotrex site, I don't think they are as "high strung" as the average centrifugal.
Just kick back and relax at the poolside bar

, and wait for Jan to complete the testing and dynos. If it turns out to be worthwhile as far as price and power, i'm sure he'll want to share the results.

I'm actually waiting to see some Rotrex numbers from a car that is not as heavily modded as yours.
While your car is the test bed for this, it has some high dollar hardware on it that not everybody will cough up the dough for.
In the quest to reduce underhood heat and IATs, the Rotrex seems like it may fit in.
Bart, the Rotrex is of a very different design than the more common Vortech or Paxton centrifugal superchargers.

Hey Loui, long time! I hope to have my car back on the road by July (long story) and then I can come out to some meets again
How's the car? Sorry, OT...
Anyway, to correct history, AMD (now brought out by Bigboystoys) in Oxfordshire had a Rotrex on their demo MINI in late 2003 when I was up there for a dyno session. I saw the car pull 340odd crank liberal (
) British HP. My car made 180 crank hp stock that day. They then added nitrous the following week and threw a rod that lodged into the ceiling of the dyno cell and narrowly missed taking out the guy stood over the intercooler with the extraction fan
The next time I went there, all that I could see of their demonstrator was a MINI with an effing huge hole in the bonnet and an intercooler that looked like it had been hit by a meteorite
. Moral? Don't play with nitrous unless you know what ya doin!
I never heard of AMD ever selling their Stage V kit to 'real' people, so the RMW product will be the first Rotrex for the masses and a better designed product to boot
Cheers,
H

Off topic i know but the cars good Henry is getting to a simlar stage as yours was before it went pop, minus the head an cam. So im about as far as i can go without those, oh an fix my poxy exhaust system which is causing a restriction
Just got back from Cars and Coffee in Irvine and saw (and heard) Bryans Project X-300 car. Very impressive, but sorry no pics as I forgot to charge my camera batteries!! Maybe someone else will post some pics.
It looks almost stock, the Rotrex is a very small device about 4" in diameter, belt driven off the left side of the motor. It idles cleanly and sounds great, but no SC whine. Runs so cool that a stock intercooler will work OK with it. Runs great on 91 octane gas. Bryan said 34 MPG, but once you change injectors, the computer generated numbers don't work. Jan is still tuning, so no dyno runs yet. So far, this thing looks like a winner.
Bryan, nice to meet you and your lady - oh and your car too!! Good luck and can't wait to see the final results!!

jeffc -
Not this morning, no. Bryan got there a bit later than us and by the time we were done talking, he had to take off to get some new brake rotors put on. He is close to the Cars and Coffee spot in Irvine, so maybe next week.
Hopefully, we will get some pics of the cars there this morning on NAM. Every Saturday morning is just an amazing car show and best of all - it is free!! If anybody is visiting Southern California, you need to come to Cars and Coffee in Irvine. Check out this link - http://www.autoworksphoto.com/Automo...0Events/265910

I am very excited about this kit. Other then a few short drives,I haven't driven the car that much. As Jan said, we are waiting on a few things. After I left cars and coffee, We drove up to MiniCorsa to see Danny for brakes. It's about a 100 mile up and back trip from my house. We drove all over Beverly Hills and Hollywood before we headed back and the car just felt great the whole time. I really am looking forward to the next couple weeks!
The only down side of our trip today was having to stop at Rodeo Dr for the wife
. With what I have been doing lately I can't say a word.
