Washed another MINI this morning (two yesterday). And I got those front mud flaps installed. Paul, I'm really happy for you that it only took you 15 minutes. I spent that long just trying to get the first rivet out of the bottom trim piece. Eighteen cuss words later, the head snapped off. So I just put a short, flat head screw in the bottom part of the mud flap. The rest of the job, not too bad, although it was a bit of a PITA to drill the inward hole, even with the car jacked up and the wheel turned as far as it could go.

Looks fine, we'll see how it works the next time the roads are wet.

dang, that sucks that it took so long. some projects are like that... looks
easy, sounds easy but when you do it everything just does not fall into
place kinda...

so i ended up washing my dd's AGAIN this morning thanks to weather
channel... they said sunny sat, sun, mon so i washed sat morning only
for them to change their forecast as it started to rain and t-storm
yesterday later afternoon.

for some reason my cars get real dusty these days... so light rain will easily
ruin my work.

so i used my spare griot's MF wash mitt today. MUCH better.

Are you sure that's dust getting on your cars these days, ken. Given your weather pretty much mirrors ours here during the Spring, I would bet that's in increase in pollen coating your cars. I had mine out for one hour and 15 minutes this morning while doing the mud flaps and when I backed it back into the garage, it had a nice, even layer of pollen all over it.

it's a sand looking beige color so didn't think too much of it, but it could
be pollen cause ive been having a hard time with my allergies
this spring.

its funny cause i go motoring and i start out watery eyes and sneezing,
but about 35miles away from home it's nice. i have my windows open
and no sneezing, no nothing.

I love Spring weather but the pollen and the bugs are a OCDetailers nightmare. When the weather gets hotter, the pollen will go away and the bugs will thin out. But for now... get the Speed Shine ready to go !

I think ken was trying to say the pollen is easily removed with a Cali Duster or some QD.

No, nothing will keep that crap from settling on your paint. In fact, I think it's a rule or something. The more recently you've washed it, the more pollen falls on it.

Yeah, although yesterday's didn't duster up so easily. I gave up after I'd been there for maybe 2 hours

You sound like me on one of our DCMM runs. I brought gallons of distilled water with me to wash off the boot at each stop (roads were wet but it had stopped raining). I gave up after a couple of attempts.

Yeah, they gave an award for "Dirtiest Mini" yesterday (I know ) and it probably should have been a 100-way tie.

I'm proud of myself, I did good things for my MINI today. I ordered a brake kit from AXC and bought an extended warranty (drivetrain only, for the CVT).

I need to get a new set of black side markers (don't ask, I am majorly bipolar on this issue). And I have a list that includes a new exhaust, motor mount bushings, a CAI, and getting my 5-stars chromed (no, I'm not kidding...unless it's crazy $$$$, then I'll just get new wheels). My new badges are on the way, and I have a tweak planned for Clara's roof "numbers".

I'm really so close to being done!

How many miles do you have on your MINI now, Mel ? I didn't think you were running out of warranty any time soon.

That's quite an impressive list of mods you still want to accomplish. I would bet that it'll be less expensive to get a new set of chrome wheels than to get your 5-star OEM wheels chromed. But even if it's close and the chroming is less expensive, I would think it would be better to buy new wheels. Interesting decision might be ahead of you.

Oh-hoooo no. I just rolled over 47k yesterday morning

I LOVE my 5-stars (especially how easy they clean, ha), but I want chrome. Thus the solution of having them chromed. But we'll see. I found others that I like, if I have to go that way.

Washed Matilda on Friday, club ride yesterday, washed Matilda today. Never ends.
Mel, if you ever finish you will need to sell Clara and start over. Finished project cars are never any fun.
Paul, I've been debating the front splash guards. They look really good. What do you think of the rear guards?
Chris, don't feel bad, my installs always take twice as long as they should and four times longer then what others say. That's not even counting the trip to the hospital for stitches or the drive to the drug store for pain medication.

Mel, I really like the 5-stars for that same reason. S-Lites and Bridgespokes on the other two MINIs.

Chuck, yeah, I got a blood blister this morning when I was trying to pry off one of those damn pop rivets. Pinched my fingertip between the screwdriver and the undercarriage. Cuss words were a flyin', let me tell you.

well, i went outside to go to BBBBBBBBBBB and the car did not have
dust on it... so not sure if it was just dust or pollen.

anyway, wat i meant above was wat CR&PW&JB said. the slick surface
makes dusting (using calduster) very easy. and imho, SprayOn wax by
Griot's has better slickness than Slick. cause it's a wax.

hey, here's the catch of da day. going to try it out. just got done
putting it together.

Mine came with a little pivoting tool, but I don't use it.

What I need is a replacement for the little brush-head upholstery tool. Ours is MIA.

YAY!!! Ken got his Dyson !!

Yeah, ours came with a small, pivoting attachement. If yours didn't, I'm sure you can get one online. I know... not what you were hoping to hear. We use that to get the corners of the stairs. In fact, I use it on the entire staircase (both of them) and it's nice to get the carpet to fluff back up again.
