I thought I would check if anyone else has experienced this; when we turn off the car without the key fob inserted, by just pressing the start/stop button, the stereo will keep running until we lock the car. If we have the key fob in the ignition the stereo will shut off when we press it in to remove it. Does anyone know if there is there some setting that I can change to get the stereo to turn off automatically when we shut off the engine, or better yet after some time delay?

If I am driving without the key in the ignition, I find that you have to hit the off button twice to shut everything off. I think this is a safety feature so that you would still have access to inside controls with the motor turned off. This is no different than the old-fashioned way where there were two clicks to turn the key. With the key in the ignition, by pushing the key in to remove it, everything is shut off (which equals two procedures). I believe if the key is still in the ignition when you push the off button, the radio and interior stuff is still on. Confusing, I know. The ultimate of it is that it takes two separate moves--if the key is in, pushing the stop button and pushing the key to release it is one way, if the key is not in, pushing the stop button then pushing it again stops everything.

I almost forgot to post this - I got my first MINI wave this morning!

I was totally zoned out waiting for the light coming out of my subdivision when a charcoal grey Cooper came around the corner and gave me a quick wave. Hey, cool! It took me a second to process what was going on but I waved back - hope she saw it, I don't want to be "that guy."

Forgot to add--make sure your foot is OFF the brake when you push the start button the second time to shut everything off. Otherwise you will just start the car again (right Jim? )

Ours does too when we put the key in the ignition. With the convenience package, you don't have to put the key in the ignition to start or stop the car as long as the key fob is in the car. You can just leave it in your pocket or purse (a nice feature). The problem is that if we don't have to take it out of the ignition it leaves the stereo running until I pull the key fob out of my pocket and hit the lock button. We don't normally lock our car in our garage. It would be nice to be able to pull into the garage, hit the stop button, get out and have the car (including the stereo) shut down.

Congrats on your first wave. I still wave most of the time even though I rarely get one in return. I'll look for you around town and will definitely wave! I'll know it's you because I doubt there is another HzB MCCS in our valley.

Good to know about the turbo water pump. The first time I heard it, I was stopped on top of a mountain and I thought it was the aux. cooling fan. Is this another fan, or the aux. fan running to cool it?

Sweet! my first wave was kind of cheating it was a mini pulling into the dealer when I was pulling out..... So like ten seconds after I had bought the car.

Great that we have this forum--I am learning a lot about my car that is so different from Jim's just from this forum as well as other places on NAM (that is how we were able to get the garage door opener working). The only Mini wave I have gotten so far was from another club member--they both hung out each side of their car waving like mad as we drove past each other--I could only assume they realized it was me--or maybe they do that to everyone in a Mini (I will have to ask!).

Yeah, since I don't have an S, I don't have the Turbo and since the car is still running I'm just going to go with it. I've decided to just ask my MA about the whine when I go in to have my plates put on. So far, I haven't had any weeping on my bonnet or boot. I looked over the car pretty thoroughly earlier to try and remove all of the sap. My car is now nearly 100% sap free! Yay!

This forum is so educational

It sure does.

I finally got tired of worrying about it and took matters into my own hands! I completely drained and flushed the reservoir and both front and rear lines of the washer system. Have you guys smelled the solution they use in there??? I would swear it's finger nail polish remover or paint thinner!!!

Anyway, I took the front line apart enough to allow it to drape over the front fender into a bucket on the ground, closed the bonnet and then folded my front wipers up so they wouldn't wipe across the windshield. Then I activated the front sprayers intermittently until the reservoir was empty (about 1 gallon). I then placed a towel over the rear sprayer and activated it until it was empty as well. Then I filled the reservoir with distilled water and repeated to clear as much of the original fluid as possible. I also plan to let my SA and MA know that I do NOT want them to put any fluid in.

I still can't believe how strong the OEM fluid smelled and, obviously, how it ruined our clear coat (I think I caught it in time to save my '09 but my '07 does have spots on the hood from when I first bought it).

Does this count as my first mod?

Nope When I removed some of the fluid last night I also remarked how nasty it smells, what the heck is it? I think you have the right idea, I will probably drain it also

Correct, even with the conv package, you can just push the start button again, and the radio should turn off. It's kind of like pulling the handle on the door, you have to do it twice if it's locked, something that freaks folks out the first time they're in the car

No??? Aww...

I figure I have plenty of time before winter to figure out what I want to do with this next. Do I leave pure water in or do I mix in some normal (read: something that doesn't eat paint) wiper fluid so the system doesn't freeze (yes it gets cold enough here for that to happen)?

Jim located some photos of the next generation Mini's--the 2-seater convertible and the crossover. Enjoy!

I'm sorry, that convertible is a dog.

I think this is the car that BMW was thinking about using to relaunch the Triumph automotive brand. As a Triumph Spitfire owner I am glad they aren't. Blech!

Brad

PS Next time I'll try to tell you how I really feel!

I think it looks like an elephant sat on a MINI - and the back end is right off a Pontiac Solstice.

Do not want,

Brad

See I thought that the rear end looked like the back of an Audi TT convertible. In my opinion, it's not ugly but it is certainly different and kind of seems like a waste of space or an underutilization of space. The crossover is interesting, although I would not buy it. Is there really a market for a crossover?
