All Aboard the TAGUS! (Week 31) Leaving Southhampton 8/9/07
There are three sets of locks a ship needs to naviagte, starting from the Atlantic side first is the Gatun locks, then Pedro Miguel and the last is Miraflores, then on to the Pacific Ocean.
Becasue of the size of the super ships, canal trafic is like a one way street with morning traffic going south and afternoon traffic going North.
Tagus should start movment in the morning as she is anchored for the night now.

Tharkun - I LOVE you! Here you already have your MINI, and are still taking the time to get us through this trauma of waiting!
Thanks for all the info, reassurance and support!
It's like I tell my friends with thumbsucking kids. . .you don't know anyone who still thumbsucks in public as an adult! We all will get through this and be ensconced in our MINI seats, whatever the material is, soon!!!

Now Tagus is on the move again, heading back in past the breakwaters, this is a bit unusual.
Tagus is moving again
I just looked at AISLive -- Tagus is moving south again and is back inside the breakwater. That seems like a good sign, although I hate to get my hopes up.
It also looks like traffic through the Gatun locks is generally heading to the Pacific, as all the little green arrows are pointing south (http://aisfree.aislive.com/Influx.as...=Gatun%20Locks). This seems like a very good sign.

I also noticed the Tagus is now GREEN instead of yellow. I think that means it has the GREEN light to go through the canal! This is WAY too exciting!!!!
(i don't know if that's what it really means but hey, sounds right to me...)

On the AIS map green is underway, yellow is anchored/docked. Right now looks like she is amongst the other ships that are anchored, so now you have to wait and see how long before she heads for the locks.

Click at the top of the map and it will refresh, you are south and looking at Gatun Locks, Tagus just anchored inside the break waters.
Check Cristobal Anchorage, just north of the Gatun locks. Tagus is in green right now. Click inside the red box, then scroll down. On the lower left should be a list of ships in alphabetical order. Find Tagus and click on it. It should put a red circle around our ship.
Ah, you're right. It's yellow again. Must be stopping for the night. We'll have plenty of time tomorrow to watch since it takes about 9 hours to get through to the Pacific... Goodnight... Again...
Nothing...looks like the Tagus has stopped again, at least for the time being. It's still on the Cristobal Map: http://aisfree.aislive.com/Influx.as...l%20Anchorages
thanks! Yellow
Maybe tomorrow!Go MINIs Go!
For instance if you're online right now, check out where the Crisotobal map says the Bahama Spirit is supposed to be.
I wonder if they have a bug in their site and the "current position" indicator is pulling position coordinates from the realtime data instread of the time-delay data...
Ya the software is like that, the red circle seems to update faster than the ship markers.
In the locks!
Man, am I glad I checked this thread before going to bed! I managed to snap a couple of pics from the live webcams...they are attached...
Edit: as of 4:32 am local panama time, she's through the Gatun locks
... tharkun, thanks for the heads up! you rock
