Brake wear question

We just brought the MCc back from the dealer for some work on the top. The dealer notified us that our breaks will need to be replaced soon. We have 4 mm left on the front and 5 mm left on the back. The car has 15,000 miles on it. Does that sound like normal wear on the breaks? The car has seen no track time and just a small handfull of spritied canyon runs.

I had my pads replaced at 10K just b/c I was sick of the dust (went w/Mintek)... there was very little difference b/w old and new (stock not Mintek) in the rear and a noticeable difference in the front... but I still ahd 90% left in the front.. I have done some hard driving on them when I am not stuck in stop and go traffic

I have a '04 MCS with 37K on original brake pads and have 2 driving schools, Putnam and Mid-Ohio plus The Dragon (3 runs), and am about the replace with EBC Green Stuff front and rear. Great wear on the original Pagids.

my 03 MCS has about 20k miles (some very hard driven miles getting
chased by cops jk) but i have PLENTY of pad left.

littleegg- i think it might be your driving style...not enough engine braking.

We are starting to think that it is not so much the driving style as it is the daily route. Mostly uphill half way and down hill the rest of the way. Twice a day. Our last car, an Audi A6, had about the same patern of brake wear. About 16-18k between changes. Both of us have been driving stick since we learned to drive. Thats about 16 years for Little Egg and about 25 years for me. My brakes always lasted at least 40k+, but I've never spend so much time in this much stop and go traffic. So I am leaning towards a combination of enviromental things contributing to the brake wear.

What kind of milages are you neighbors getting on their cars' brakes?
That might be a good indication what might be going on given that
they go up and down these hills in your neighborhood.

Our neighbors don't work in the same area we do and people we work with don't live anywhere close to us. You have to "love" Los Angeles. So asking them wouldn't provide any insight. But now that I think about it, my old Honda (now gone) did the same thing. Was just fine while I worked somewhere else, but as soon as I started my current job the brakes went within 3 months. Got to be the road.

yah, driving up and down San Fransisco isn't easy on the brakes either.

I guess if that's normal wear for your area, not much we can do
but replace them.
