original runflats to different wheels?
I just took delivery of my MCSC saturday. It came with the 5 spoke 17x7 bullets. I ordered a set of R99 anthracite 17x7 wheels as an accessory through the parts dept. of my dealer. The parts guy said there would be no problem switching the wheels and using the same tires.
Today I called my service advisor, and he said this would be difficult as the run flats can't be switched to another wheel? Something about the bead breaking/leaking? Has anyone ever heard of this? I don't doubt the fact that the runflats have a stiffer side wall, but why can't you take them off a wheel and put them on another one, especially since the entire car is 2 days old?
Any help would be appreciated -

Thats exactly what I thought as well. My MA was telling me when I ordered my car that if I wanted any wheels as accessories, that I would have to order the wheels with the tires already installed. The dealer I'm using has a hunter road force balancer, so I assumed they were adept at dealing with tire issues - maybe they just don't like changing tires?
I would guess they just don't like changing tires. I also hope they don't much like selling cars either because when people catch wind of the load of horse-puckey they're shoveling they should be taking their business elsewhere! This is the crap that gives all car dealers a bad name when it's really just the bad ones that need to be weeded out. Talk to a real tire store and either have them do the job or arm yourself with the facts and make your dealer look as foolish as they are.

Also in the last few days I found out how much tire guys do not know. Either that or they lie assuming I wouldn't know the difference. I have heard things from these guys like "you can't replace runflats with non-runflats" and "you have to stay with the same tire size", etc.
Wheels made for run-flats have a small ridge where the bead of the tire sits. This allows the tire to lose pressure and still maintain the bead so the tire doesn't roll off the wheel. This doesn't mean that the tires couldn't be mounted on aftermarket wheels, but I would assume the dealer decided he didn't want to take responsibility for having to repair/replace a tire that was damaged because of this.

My fault......didn't see that. That makes the decision of the dealer not to do it just wrong. Looks like they didn't have the equipment to do it (as stated by others who actually read the post........lol).
You might check with a Goodyear shop and see if they would do it. They sell run-flats.

I checked with a goodyear shop - they quoted me $40 per wheel to do it. They sounded a little scared about the RF sensor, and when I explained that the mini uses the abs sensors to monitor wheel diameter instead of a sensor in the wheel or at the valve, they sounded even more confused.
I would rather have the dealer handle the car, but if I have to I'll take it somewhere else. The SA at my dealer was supposed to call me back about it today, but didn't. He told me that they have had problems with people re-mounting run flats as they leak from the beads. They are a busy service bay (a BMW dealer that does all the service for the mini dealer next door without its own service bay), so maybe thats why they don't want to deal with it. Either way its pretty crappy - I just bought this new car from them and all I want is the wheels I bought to be installed. You would think they would find a way to make it happen.
