I have XXR 16x8 's on both the front and rear of my car. It looks really nice from the front but there's a BIG tire gap from the wheels to the car. Not sure if i should lower the car or put bigger tires if they can fit without rubbing. Tires are 205/40 's. Here's some pictures...

Should i lower my car to make the wheel gap smaller or put thicker tires on there?

What is negative camber? Where the tires are at an angle?

cudda: I have the exact wheels on my 16x8 15et they look great. to make gem fit on ur Cooper. u gotta to lower ur mini and add about -3camber all around. so get camber on the minis. the rear u need lower control arms and for the frot need adjustable front camber plates.. and do a whole lot of trimming to the front and rear arches.. u can ask crazyaboutmini he sees my car all the time..

Much lower, and 205/45/16's. You can't rock aggressive offsets without slamming your car.

For sure i could fit the 45's on my rim with rubbing? I'm going to go costco today and see how much it is for them to change it to 45's.

You've got like 4 inches of wheel gap, I don't think you have to worry about rubbing

In all honesty, you're running a REALLY low offset. You're gonna rub once you lower your car especially without camber. That's why people generally run 8's with an offset around 20 or higher.

I would recommend toyo T1R or falken 512 so u can stretch properly. I don't think u can pick up those tire at ur local costco.

Agreed. You definitely need to get tires that stretch well to clearance those wheels.

to fit low offset wheels here are the recipe to make them fit and look good.. tires that stretch well. slammed stance. a whole lot of trimming. camber and more camber.

You don't "need" to trim to fit larger wheels and tires, but it does help. Properly chosen offsets, stretched tires and some camber is usually enough. Letting the tires trim the plastic bits that wind up rubbing will do the rest. Use a dremel to speed up the process if you want to.

Trimming? This is a MINI. Let the tire self-clearance through good ol' fashioned rubbing.

So I'm thinking about ordering (2) 205/45/16 tires to replace my 40's. If the 45's clear with no rubbing, I'll order two more 205/45/16 tires to get 45's all around. If the 45's don't clear and rub, could I put the two 45's that i bought in the rear and two 40's that i already have in the front
Or will that look retarded? :-P does this all make sense?? Haha.

You need to lower the car, new tires aren't going to help.
