weird "clunk" coming from front end

Hey all,

So I recently installed Ksport coilovers on my 2005 R53 and noticed that I could feel and hear a weird "clunk" noise everytime I hit a small/large bump.
This noise mostly happened when I was driving slowly.

After reading multiple posts on this forum, I assumed my lower control arm bushings were finished and decided to replace them ... along with other parts that would be easy to access while I had the subframe down. Parts I changed are as follow :
  • Powerflex lower control arm bushings
  • Powerflex front sway bar bushings
  • Powerflex lower engine mount bushings
  • Powerflex gearbox bushings
  • Both outer ball joints
After having all of this done I was sure I would have beating the "clunk" and the car would be perfect ... I was wrong
Now it seems the noise is back and even worst than before. I double and triple checked all the nuts and bolts and everything is rock solid.
The only thing I can now think off is that my front endlinks are the cause of the problem. The coilovers came with adjustable front endlinks and I never installed them since I was keeping them as spare, but I think now would probably be the right time to try them as they are shorter and beefier than the OEM ones.

Anybody else have an idea of whats going on

Thanks as always

Are you still using the stock sway bar end links? That's what was making my noise when I installed coils

Did the clunk happen before you installed the coilovers?

Are you still using your oem upper strut mounts? I heard they cause a loud hollow thunk if they go bad.

Since it started after the install of the coilovers I would say the problem probably lies there. Check and double check the spring preload as well as the top nut in the strut that goes into the upper mount /Camber plate.

Problem Solved !
Ended up having to install my adjustable endlinks in order to have an overall longer endlink length compared to the OEM.
Due to the fact my car was significantly lower, having stock endlinks put the swaybar in a prestressed condition which caused it to hit my frame when under load (hitting bumps)

So the solution was simply to elongate my endlinks and voila problem solved !

Thanks for all your inputs

good to know; I've been thinking that I broke one of the adjustable camber plates. I'll have another look at my ARb drop links and see about installing some new longer Whitelines.

don't forget to tighten them properly, that could be a source of clunking also
