its the DIS-2, not the 4
Would this work on our application?

I already have a nice one. cost me 15 bucks off the snap on truck!

so whats the verdict on this msd coil pack -

1) is it any good? or just bling (which i dont mind)

2) can any wires fit these (stock, or kingsborne etc)

3) whats this spark plugs gapping issue? (sorry its new to me).. is this required with all coil packs or only this msd one?

1-yes
2-yes
3-plugs should be gapped as long as you have them in your MINI regardless of what coil you use

thanks for the answers!

um the densos ik22 comes pre gapped - correct?
would these need to be re-gapped?
how do i know what to gap it to?
is the gapping space particular to the type of coil pack used (stock vs aftermarket?)

Most plugs are pre-gapped but you should double check in case they were bumped afterwards. You can search the plug company for the gap information. There is only one recommended gap from the plug manufacturers.

Summit is usually very good to their customers.

Next time i stop in, i'll ask what they could do on the price of say.......15 of them, perhaps we can get it down to around 50-55 bucks?

So still no evidence that this MSD coil is a better unit than the stock one?

MSD is a well established supplier. They have been in business for a long time and have a great reputation. I have used MSD boxes on other cars in the past with good results. I put one on a well massaged 383 Chevrolet and it seemed to improve throttle response and smooth out the idle. MSD stands for Multiple Spark Discharge. AFAIK, they pioneered the technology to give multiple spark discharges. Also, from asking around with drag racers and hot-rodders, the multi-spark is good in a forced induction engine. It tends to promote more complete combustion of the fuel-air mixture. MSD and B&M are the only "old school" names I recognize that are supplying parts for the MINI. I'm not saying that other suppliers are bad, just that those names are well known and established in the hot rodding community.

I have a MCS/JCW and I've been thinking about installing an MSD coil. I was hoping someone else would do it first and report the benefits (if any).

Give me a few weeks. We (our restoration buisness) are establishing connections with companies to become distributors for parts. MSD is one of them.

B&M is another.

Let me see, i might be able to hook up some MINI guys with some deals if all goes well!

Group buys is where a group of people get together and buy a product to get a better price than if each one bought on their own.

What's the problem with it? No benefit? Less benefit than you expected for the money? or Runs worse than it did stock? Is it a defective unit, or do you believe that all of them would have the same effect?

Mostly because I don't want anyone else to have one besides me It wouldn't matter if I told everyone that it was great, someone else would ask what it does for the money. So I'm just saying don't waste your money just for the RED plastic unless you think RED is worth more hp
