its the DIS-2, not the 4

2-yes
3-plugs should be gapped as long as you have them in your MINI regardless of what coil you use

would these need to be re-gapped?
how do i know what to gap it to?
is the gapping space particular to the type of coil pack used (stock vs aftermarket?)

MSD is a well established supplier. They have been in business for a long time and have a great reputation. I have used MSD boxes on other cars in the past with good results. I put one on a well massaged 383 Chevrolet and it seemed to improve throttle response and smooth out the idle. MSD stands for Multiple Spark Discharge. AFAIK, they pioneered the technology to give multiple spark discharges. Also, from asking around with drag racers and hot-rodders, the multi-spark is good in a forced induction engine. It tends to promote more complete combustion of the fuel-air mixture. MSD and B&M are the only "old school" names I recognize that are supplying parts for the MINI. I'm not saying that other suppliers are bad, just that those names are well known and established in the hot rodding community.
I have a MCS/JCW and I've been thinking about installing an MSD coil. I was hoping someone else would do it first and report the benefits (if any).
