TY Will for clearing that up.

I am considering the MSD for a couple of reasons, the fact that it is a speciality manufacturer and not an oem supplier (would suggest a higher quality, better life...?) and the possiblity that the output is genuine and consistent.

ummmmmmmm read the post above yours. I was concerned that the MSD rep contacted didn't have a clue as to what the MINI req'd cause they didn't even have it listed on the website.

I just read a post that Randy Webb wrote on this subject. He said he tested the MSD and but never sold any. He said quote: "It is a waste." He went on to say the Pilo was the only one to get as a upgrade.

Thats nice that Randy finds it a waste.

Who's up for a group buy? I'm looking into it now and i'm gonna shoot the price of $52 dollars to Summit and see what they have to say. I'm probably going to need at least ten people to get any lower of a price.

As far as the Ignition boxes go, they run almost $500 bucks, so getting much of that shouldnt be too big of an issue, but we will still need a few people to get it done.

OK, with 10 people, they tell me a price of $65 bucks a piece. Doesnt seem like much of a discount to me....

I'm going to wait we get an account with summit then try again and see if i can get it down to at least 60 bucks.

Also, it would be nice if someone from outside of ohio would buy them, that way we wouldnt need to pay sales tax.

Skuzy, i think i can get the best price from either summit or jegs.

i'm going to talk to summit again and tell them jegs says they will give them to us for 60 each, and see if they will beat jegs price for 10.

the ignition box is just used to control the spark. i think you can adjust timing, change the rev limiter and add in a throttle stop with it.

i'll pass on a pilo coil group buy, id rather have the MSD.

When it comes to the coils, who's to say who is best out there? As long as the mini has been out, with all the aftermarket parts out there, Im still suprised that nobody has done a true test on the coil. We have tests on Air Intakes, Exhaust, Intercoolers, headers ect, ect, but no coil. Yes Red would add a little color to under the bonnet, (Cool factor points ) but if we do a group buy, we should get one that does increase performance, but then we are back to square one and no test to prove who is better. Now I've confused myself.. Just hate to spend $60.00+ if the coil is no better then the factory one.

Mate - might sound silly , but do u mean if i got a coil pack, id need to adjust the timing as well? so installing one of these is not just a case of replacing the old with the new and done?

No, the coil only can be replaced. You dont need the box to run an MSD coil.

The igniton box is optional, and its quite a bit of effort to install one.

Of course this is open to the Aussies, as long as you want to pay for shipping.

The reason i can see no one has done any test for coils are beacuse on our cars, there isnt any substansial incrase in power ot torque when you chage one.

I dont think there is anywhere near the kind of power to be made with our ignitions as there is with like a 4.6 mustang motor or a new F body ignition, i know you can get some pretty decent gains by modding their ignitons.

Have u got a link where i read up more on this? the part about the ignition box has got me confused. Why would u want to adjust timing, rev lmiter etc with the ignition?
