I've looked through several posts reporting rattles in the dash, sunroof, and rear hatch area... but is no one else plagued by an incessant rattle in the b-pillar??

My Cooper develops this rattle over medium distance highway driving (i.e. after an hour or so). From what I can tell, it's emanating from the sliding part that adjusts the height at which the seat-belt comes out of the b-pillar.

If anyone has experienced this (and had it fixed), I would love to hear it!

GMINI548 - Just shooting in the dark here but, if it's on the passenger side, could it be the wind hitting the belt. I've had to secure the passenger seat belt on a number of occasions to keep it from making a racket.

No, the rattle that you are hearing is coming from the B-pillar plastic seatbelt cover. If you touch it or put a little of pressure over the cover it creaks. I am not sure if there is a fix for it. It seems to me that the type of plastic used for this cover is the actual culprit. Mine does not make noises, only a couple of times, but that's it.

Check back with your dealer, but I am not sure whether this can be fixed or not.

You are not alone! The rattle drives me insane. I usually fiddle around with the belt height adjustment and it stops for awhile....until I drive over another bump.

P.S. I also get a cracking noise in the steering column when I cut the wheel while parking etc. If anyone knows what might be causing that I would appreciate it.

I have got this rattle too!

My rattle only occurs if my Cooper has been standing in direct sunlight. On cloudy days - I don't have a problem. I am looking forward to many cloudy - rattle free days - during the typical English winter !

I have asked my delear to look at this problem, however, even after they lubricated the parts of the seat belt mechanism - I still get rattles.

Does anyone know the proper fix ??

I fixed my passenger seatbelt rattle by buckling the seatbelt when I'm driving (even if there's no passenger). It works!

Mine has dissipated and now is tolerable. I think it will continue to go away. Didn't hear it all the last 3 days.

I've had this on the passenger side since I got my MCS. I always have the seat belt on that side latched which helps but doesen't stop it. The dealer replaced the cover after the second trip to get it fixed. It was much louder and more frequent with the new cover. The next trip to the dealer was to get fuzzy tape applied to the back side of the cover. This dampened the buzzing down quite a bit but it's still there when driving on our rough concrete freeways. I think lining the back side of the cover with something like dynamat would work the best. I went the dealer route because they said the cover is easy to break when trying to remove it. I searched for how-to's on removing the B piller but couldn't find anything, this was last winter.

Had it but fixed it!

After raising the seat belt height adjuster all the way up I used about a 1" long chunk of self adhesive soft velcro and stuck in the lower rear corner. Then gently pryed out at the bottom when lowering the adjuster so the velcro could go down and be hidden inside the B-piller cover plastic. No squeeks for a year. Good luck!

Now if only the sunroof trim oval could be fixed the same way
