Just recently I have noticed a noise coming, seemingly, from the left front of the car. The noise is kinda like a metallic chirp, sort like the short single chirps of a car alarm. It happens when Im taking off from a dead stop, and it seems to happen more if their is more "load", i.e starting off on an incline or such. Has anyone else heard of this or have any info for me? I have been notifiyed that there is a recall for my car, but I have not been able to get in touch with my MA to find out what it is. Im HOPING, this has something to do with it.

Have you noticed any changes in the way the clutch pedal or transmission works?

Yeah take it back to the dealer. Let them figure it out.

Nope the clutch pedal and tranny feel fine. At first I thought it might be a sound coming from my intake, TB whistle style, but Im sure it's not now. Uhhh, this is distressing.

Just did a search and came across this thread, I'm having the same kind of noise. It sounds just like a chirp from a car alarm or a light tap of the horn. It mostly occurs when starting from a stop sometimes it will happen more than once while accelerating.
Any more information about this?
I know it is not related to brakes, I totally redid mine on Saturday and the noise is still there. It is somewhat random. If I let the clutch out in neutral it does not seem to re-occur. If I let the car coast down a hill from a stop it does not seem to re-occur.

may be your wheel bearing...

I had a very similar sounding problem several months ago. After searching around this site I found a few others too. For some of us it turned out to be the wheel bearing.

Check out this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=15699

MINI of Peabody did the work on mine, and it was the second one they did. It took them several days to diagnose the first one (I believe CCM was was the guinea pig). When I went in, I basically told them I thought it was the bearing, and the service manager agreed. It took them all of 45 minutes to replace.

-good luck

That was a real bugger to diagnose. They had never heard it before and we all thought is was classic cv joint failure. After replacing the half shafts the noise was still there. They took the brakes apart and reassembled them, checked suspension, hooked up the listening probes with head phones and drove around the lot trying to find the source, etc. Frinally, on a whim, they took the wheel bearing out of their drag MINI put it in mine and voila! It was cured. They had it seven days. Lucky me, got to drive a Neon loaner. They were very good about providing the loaner car.
