2007 MC S turbo problems

Mechanical problems
My CPO 2007 s has had a fair share of mechanical problems all of which were covered under warranty. I'm now at 48,000 miles, and paid to extend my warranty to 100,000. So last week my temp light then engine light came on and I got towed to the dealership. After that was all repaired I got a "need to fix soon" estimate sheet. My turbo is leaking oil I need a turbo oil supply and seal rings. $800 and not covered under warranty. I'm confused as to 1) why it's not covered 2) why things are going out under 50,000 miles 3) if any of the issues I've had so far could result in this happening.
I hope someone can help me figure this out or give me advice to take to the dealer when I talk to them about the constant issues.
I love my car and have had several close friends buy MINI after riding in mine.

Have you reviewed your extended warranty terms and conditions?
There are items specifically outlined for what's included and what's not.
How long have you own the CPO vehicle?

One can be attributed to the previous owner(s) that haven't taken well-care of the vehicle.
Another is that the oil feed line is a common fault WHEN the engine is starving or short on oil, or long-term between oil changes.
Another could be just defective components; it's typically not common, but it does occur.

No, the temperature sensor has nothing to do with oil level and delivery.

What you can do is keep up on proper preventative maintenance, use a quality synthetic engine oil and press on.

I called my dealership and they're looking over my records to see what's up. It's a CPO, I purchased the 100,000 extended warranty as well as the maintenance package, and wheel and tire insurance after 3 TN potholes snuck up on me! It was a lease before I purchased stand my maintenence records are pristine, everything has been done at the dealership where I purchased my car. I'll add more after I talk to my dealer... Fingers crossed!!!!

Berst advice is to sell the car before it breaks you. I have 2007 Cooper S that has been nothing but problems and I have taken care of the car. At 56K water pump, at 61K the battery went dead at a stop and they replaced battery and starter another $800 at 66k hard starting starting problems after $1800 and a valve cleaning and rip off it was determined it was the high pressure full pump which was repaired under warranty. Now today at 78k while driving along at 70 mph, instant misfire which they claim is burnt or cracked exhaust valves in #2 cylinder and an estimate of $3200 to repair. Crazy, crazy, crazy. I will $6000 in repairs this year alone. Those are Ferrari maintenance numbers. Fed up!!

I've always though the terms of the extended 100,000 miles warranty were a little hairy, and they shouldn't be. It's pretty bad they want to argue to not fix the turbo oil line This sounds like a case where you need to have a one-on-one meeting with the service manager to politely state your concerns about customer service.

I just read where the 2012 models now have a heat shield at the point where my 07 is leaking. I would think (granted I'm not a mechanical person and have never even opened my bonnet) that may prove a "faulty componet" issue. But again I'm speaking out of my element and just hope I can state my case effectively. I'm still waiting for the call. Luckily my family has a long standing relationship with BMW and maybe that will work in my favor! I'm gathering info and taking notes to support my issue... Will let you all know the outcome!

This oil feed supply line is the problem. Cause it does not have a fixed end (meaning it is not a one piece aluminum pipe) but has a twisting end which seals with an internal grommet. The early Mini did not have any protection on that point so, if you ran low on oil, or had contaminated oil due to late oil changes, this grommet went bad and oil spray happened following turbo seizure etc. This aluminum protection plug over the oil feed supply line and regular oil level checking together with regular oil+oil filter changes is the remedy.

My car is in the shop now with a blown turbo. It was caused by the lines being gummed up by cooked oil from the heat. My car is an 08 with no shields on the lines. My 3rd party extended warranty covered it luckily. If I did not have the warranty, I was looking at about $2700 to replace the turbo.

I will say though, that despite this one massive failure, I have not had any other serious problems. Forums tend to be rather negative because this is where folks go to explain their issues and find help. MINIs are not all bad!

I agree with you. This engine is a very good unit in many aspects. Power-economy-duration. I own a 2007 MCS and I never had a mechanical failure, nor reduced power etc. Of course, I take very careful care of my car! It is obvious that a well taken care car is less likely to have problem on the long run.

I am very confused here for a few reasons.

1. Depending on the original IN SERVICE DATE of the vehicle (i.e. the date it was originally purchased) it MAY be still under warranty like if the car was new and not purchased until some time in 2008. Unlikely but may be possible.

2. If it is a MINI CPO from a MINI dealer. Make sure you get a formal copy of the warranty as the cars warranty was extended to 100K Miles and 6 years from In Service Date. Yes the warranty is slightly different but i believe is covers ALL engine components. And if this is the case then the dealer is screwing you.

I know on my BMW CPO they covered all engine components as i had to have some repairs done at 92K and paid only for oil and a new belt. and BTW this is WITHOUT paying for an extended warranty.

It sounds to me as if the dealership is just trying to get what ever they can out of you and screw you to the wall.

Extended warranties should cover ALL engine components.

+1 driving habits and maintenance are the most important factors. Many who report problems on here are not the best of care takers.

The Nashville MINI dealership and service department is amazing. I spoke to my tech and my dealer about the situation and after they researched my CPO, tech specs and my pristine maintenance details, agreed to cover the turbo oil leak. HOWEVER, I spied a brand new silver model with a JCW package in the showroom. After sitting down with my salesman and running the numbers, I'm the proud owner of a brand new MINI!
