R56 Cooper Base clutch/transmission problem?

Hi y'all,

I have a 6-speed manual 2007 R56 base cooper giving me weird problem. The engine is on in 1st gear with my hand brake pulled, I can actually release clutch without engine stall. Give it a little gas don't feel any power going forward till engine speed over 5,000RPM, still not much power.

What is this problem? Is there any quick fix?

Thanks in advance....

-Justin

You're describing a worn out clutch. Does the engine also race when you floor it in top gear (particularly when going uphill)? The fix is a new clutch, not quick or cheap.

Thanks ammodave.

The car can barely move at all despite engine is running smooth, no weird sound or anything. Pressing clutch feels no difference from before, just cannot engage. I guess a clutch job is inevitable. Thanks again.

How many miles are on this clutch? Here is a good thread on NAM about the R56 clutch lifespan. Here is another one about signs of a failing clutch as well. You can buy a clutch kit here if needed.
