squeal/ chirp when ignition turns off (video)

ive searched a little bit but havevnt found anything... i was having the chirping that i thought was the water pump but havent heard it in a long time.. had it checked out anyways and couldnt reproduce... maybe because im back in texas and the car was just cold in newyork? i dont know so ive been monitoring my car to see if i could reproduce it when i noticed this sound when turning off the car... i think it happens everytime... doesnt matter if its warm or cold.. but today i video taped it and the car was warm what do you guys think.. im about to call mini of plano.

Hmmm. That's a new one by me. But it sure doesn't sound right. I wouldn't guess that's the water pump; usually a water pump squeals and chirps when the engine is running, not just when you shut the engine off.

But if you can duplicate it "on demand" now, get it to the dealer and let them hear it. Or play your video for them.

My 2011 MCS does the same thing sometimes (but the "shutdown squeaking" is not nearly as loud). Please do post an update when you have more info... Mucho thanx!

I've been having this intermittently for months now. I've been unsuccessful at replicating the sound at the dealership. I'm growing increasing worried that I'm going to suffer a break down or some other problem on my next road trip.

WOW! waterpump already, damn. I get the same noise sometimes, now the worry begins. Let us know if they did change the waterpump or just grease something up so you dont hear the noise anymore.

Myself and one other MCS 2012 car had the same issue with less than 1000 miles. Both of us needed a new water pump. Our Thread.

mdsbrain and other who had there water pump replaced,

so after they replaced the water pump, did that fix the squeal after you turn off the ignition?

the op on the thread you posted stated that the noise is still there after he turned off but not during operation even when they replaced water pump.

Got my car back today with a new water pump and put 50 miles on it. So far so good no noise.

my mcs has that squeal since day 1, only when i turn off the engine. i'm at 6k miles and the only issue i have is that my coolant goes down about 0.5 inch within 6 months and requires topoff. i spoke to my dealer about the coolant issue and they said it was 'normal'.

Now I have the shut-off chirp. Just noticed this last night. Ugh, back to the dealer again.

Took mine in last night and just got a call from the dealer claiming the shut down chirp is "normal" and is the fuel pump. Chirping doesn't seem normal to me.

However, mine has also taken to occasionally squealing continuously at idle, which I asked them to try to reproduce. Hopefully they can.

I'm having ur same issues, I find that after a bit of vigorous driving the squeal stays on for a bit but then goes away. I'm guessing turbo pressure dies down and it goes away. As far as the chirp a fuel pump shouldn't be chirping at all, that's not a good sign.

Don't back down. Take a video like I did if you have too. I took mine in a few times until they finally just replaced my water pump. Which did the trick. For me at least.

I haven't taken mine in yet, but I've noticed mine only does it after a 15-20 minute drive. Short(er) drives there's nothing. Weird. Taking a video is a good idea, because I'm sure they won't be able to recreate mine.

For what its worth (posted in a similar thread) after 700 miles the noise is back in my car. Not as loud as before but its there. Does it after the car is warmed up. Not sure if I will take it back in yet for the issue.

Picked my car up this evening, when apparently all the MINI people had already bailed for the night, so all I had was a BMW guy unfamiliar with anything MINI related. They stuck by their story that this is a normal sound and claim they compared with several other new Minis on the lot, all of which squealed.

Funny how my loaner didn't squeal...

I'm going to try to record it squealing continuously next time it does it. Hopefully that will convince them something is up.
