Squeak After Shutting Car Off

I just picked up my 2012 MCS last Thursday and I absolutely love it. I gave it a wash this morning. After I backed it up into the garage, I shut the car off and heard a squeak come somewhere out of the engine. I turned the car back on and got the squeak again as I turned it off.

I'm really paranoid about this car, and I give it thorough inspections everyday. (I know I'm crazy). Am I just freaking out over nothing? It has 860 miles on it so I can't possibly imagine something already being wrong with it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

lol belt noise... CHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL , if it gets worse take it in... people get too nit picky with these minis and end up getting disappointed when they dont have their vehicles for months chasing ghost noises and un clear problems.

Enjoy it!

Ok, I'm starting to hear a prolonged squeak when the car is sitting in idle. It goes away once I give it some gas. It's not a a phantom noise. The car has 1000 miles on it. Could this just be the sound of something breaking in?

This happens to me during really hot summer days, it is a phantom because for me at least it comes and goes. If it worries you that much bring it in to where you bought it from.

Bumping this thread. Took my 1 week old 2012 in with 400miles on the clock due to the same issue. When the car is warmed up it has a squeak when you shut it off.

They have diagnosed it as a faulty water pump and are working on replacing it.

Yea it was the water pump. They replaced it no questions asked. Still kinda pathetic the water pump goes after 2,000 miles. Oh well, the price of an exciting car I guess haha.

In a strange way I'm glad I'm no the not the only one with the issue.

hmm, my car does this too. is this squeak a sign of defective water pump that will go out? or is it just a harmless noise? i don't mind the squeak if the noise is harmless but if it's otherwise, i will go have it check out.

can your guys shed some more info on this squeak. is it harmless? i don't like having to replace the water pump just to get rid of this noise that doesn't bother me.

As far as I can tell, the squeak after you turn the car off is normal because my new water pump does the same thing. My last water pump actually started to whine when the car was in idle. It got ridiculously annoying. You'll notice it immediately and it doesn't sound right at all. That's when you should head to the dealer. Don't listen to the bozo above telling people they're hearing phantom noises. If you hear something that your intuition tells you is a bit off, chances are you're right.

If it's a faulty water pump, no, it is NOT harmless. If it goes out, it could very well take your engine with it. Get it replaced.

Mine has never squeaked on shutdown or in idle, it's not normal unless there's a mouse under the bonnet that's unhappy the ride ended so soon.

Okay. Mine just does it when I shut off the engine. I'll keep notice on whether it starts to squeal/squeak/whine during operation. But so far, it's just the noise on shutoff that I thought it was some belt or vacuum noise (based on other posts around here). The mcs is just a noisy car..lol Thanks!

During the Thanksgiving weekend I noticed the squeek is back. Not as loud as the noise was. Wondering if the water pumps are noisey or as Bigprfed said I am being too picky. Gonna email my SA and ask for advice. Car now has 1100 miles on it. Noise first appeared @ 400 and had the water pump replaced.

Interesting - you're not alone. I have a 2009 Clubman D with exactly the same issue. Waterpump was replaced under warranty. Three months later it's squealing again. Let me know how you get on.

Did they flush the cooling system on yours during replacement?
