strange wheel noise...

I just bought an 03 cooper a few weeks ago. The first thing I noticed was a noise from the front left on hard left turns. I attributed this to a wheel bearing possibly going bad. I replaced the wheel hub assembly, using proper torque specs and noticed the noise actually got louder. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Also, I don't know if it could be the culprit, but my dsc, abs, and tos lights are all on.

Thanks in advance for any help. Love my mini, and I need to get her healthy.

Did you check the other side also? Sometimes sound travels in strange ways.

Yeah. The pass bearing is good to go. Honestly it sounds/feels like my driver side brake is pulsing slightly like the dsc is trying to correct. But its disabled. Very weird.

Wheel speed sensor.

I recently experienced the same issue.

Bad wheel bearing AND wheel speed sensor.

Checked the cv joint and it looks ok. I feel like I'm running out of options.

Wheel speed sensor... is that something I can troubleshoot or just a replace and pray for the best type if thing?

Just realized something that may be a possible symptom as well. Excessive steering vibrations (wheel wobble left to right...) points me more towards a bent/worn cv shaft or possibly my cvt going bad. Someone please tell me its.not the latter.

Sounds more like an unbalanced wheel if the sound traveled from side to side when you swapped sides with the wheel. Try swapping wheels front to back to isolate the wheel itself as a problem.

That is what I think...bad tire, rim or balance.

Sorry for the confusion... I meant that at around 35 mph and up the steering wheel begins to wobble left and right on its own. Irritating.

That sounds like a bent rim, badly bent too. Your buddy in another car should be able to see that wobble..

Could just be a flat spot on your tire, too, depending on severity of wobble.

So, took her out on the interstate yesterday and noticed the steering wheel wobble stops at approx.65 mph. I talked to a technician friend of mine and he seems to think my rack and pinion may be going out. Thoughts?

Do the easy stuff first. Rotate the tires front to back & see if that 65mph wobble stops or changes. Report back here with the results.

How many miles on your MINI?

Total load off my mind. Rotated my tires during lunch and the noise and wobble is gone. Thanx all for the hasty replies and help. Now just waiting on the wheel speed sensor so I can take care of this light trifecta. Thanks again for all the help!

Ps... mileage is 114500

Glad it worked out for you. A good balance is in order.
