OK, here's one for ya'll. I went out to the car this morning and I pushed the unlock function on the key. The door unlocks, I open the door, and I here this ticking. It's coming from the speedo. The needle is jumping between 0 and about 5 mph very rapidly. I close the door it stops, I open the door it starts up again. I finally inserted the key and turned it to the on position, turned it off and that took care of it.

Weird huh?

It hasn't done it before or since. Got me scratchin' my poor bald head.

Think I remember hearing about this before. And if I could have a MINI and a Mini I'd take a bald head!

Has anyone figured out what causes this? We have an early Dec 03 build MCS, and this happened to us last night. We were messing around with the fog lights and the wipers, and at some point the speedo needle start freaking out. The key was in the car, but the car wasn't on, and taking the key out fixed the problem.

I had this, too. The night I took delivery on my Nov03 build 04MCS. I just got home after receiving it. I came out to look at it again (because I still couldn't believe it was here after 4 month's wait) and I ulocked the door. After I opened the passenger-side door I heard the ticking and locked around and noticed the speedo bouncing between 0 and 5-ish MPH . I closed door and it went away. Reopened it and it started again. I locked the door and unlocked again and the ticking wasn't there. It hasn't happed since, two and a half months.
