Top Tier Gasoline

Well, last week I had a little miss fire while accelerating thru an intersection. The car was sputtering until I pulled over and turned off the car and then restarted. I took it in Autohaus and they reset the "Service Engine Soon" light. They asked what gasoline I was using, and I was unaware that BP wasn't this list of Top Tier Gasoline. I was using the 93 Octane. Check out the list at http://toptiergas.com/ Click on the retail tab.

Does anyone have any preference to what Companies Gas to put into your Mini? Do you put in same Companies Gas? If You have any input about what gas you use or maintanence you do for the best performance please let us know.

I go only to Chevron or Shell....I seem to get more mpg out of a tank of Chevron.

I avoid "Exxon" and "Citgo".

In benign weather months, buy the cheapest gas you can find of the required octane rating -- the only caveat is that the station must have a high turnover so the fuel is fresh.

I've used Costco on Minis and lots of high performance sports cars and have never had any problems.

The "top tier" stuff is marketing bunk (jmo...)

i've heard this top tier thing thrown around ever since i bought my first mini in 02. what i need to know is how does a vendor get on this list? who pays for this site? what makes them an authority that deserves to be trusted?

there's no contact info on the site which, IMO, is suspect.

I tried Shell and got "Cold Start Stumble"

This is old news .... I suggest you read What Gas Stations Won't Tell You

"Oil companies spend lots of money explaining why their gas is better than the competition's. Chevron's gas, for example, is fortified with "Techron," and Amoco Ultimate is supposed to save the planet along with your engine. But today more than ever, one gallon of gas is as good as the next. ...

additives help to clean your engine, but what the companies don't tell you is that all gas does so. Since 1994 the government has required that detergents be added to all gasoline to help prevent fuel injectors from clogging ...

What's more, your local Chevron station may sell gas refined by Shell or Exxon Mobil. Suppliers share pipelines, so they all use the same fuel. And the difference between the most expensive brand-name gas and the lowliest gallon of no-brand fuel? Often just a quart of detergent added to an 8,000-gallon tanker truck."

Top Fuel

My point was to see what other Mini owners are doing in regard to what fuel they buy. Some of us are new Mini owners, this was something new, that I did not know about. I had an issue, and Autohaus told me about a report about the toptier gasoline companies. I then brought this problem to my brother has an M3 and he uses Shell, but also recommended that I use Chevron Tectron to clean the fuel injector. So I appreciate everyone's opinion.

Today I put in Shell and the Tectron, and she ran very well today. So well see. Probably just a hickup, since I've been using BP since I bought the car.

I've been Using Shell, and never had an issue. Other reason i use Shell is because I have a Shell Gas card and get 5% back, so that helps.

I guess I'm bad but I usually just buy at the stations that have 93 octane.
Would the summer reformulated gas have anything to do with performance?

And now that I have my DDM air intake, Sunnie is performing quite well in addition to getting better gas mileage

Still trying to find someone in Omaha with 93 octane - starting to think it doesn't make it's way to NE.

Mr Sun likes to drink Shell on a regular basis and if not Shell, then Mobile, I quit going to QT because the octane rating went down on the premium.
