Insulation under hood
My new coupe has insulation under the hood and I can not see the scoop it looks different from pictures that I have seen of other Mini's. My scoop and hood do not get hot to the touch after the engine has been running at all. Is this the new heat shield that I have read about?

Since they replaced the SC with turbo, the scoop is just there for looks, non-functinal, and yes, insulation is there for heat. Turbos create a lot of that. Look back to some of the earlier threads about melting scoops when the turbo was first introduced.

Actually, my Coupe S has the same insulation. I thought it had something to do with my car being Canadian?
Glad to hear this should keep the heat off the scoop!

Could this have something to do with production date? Or perhaps climate (i.e., cold weather vs warm weather)? I'm pulling at straws here....

Hmmm... Mine has the insulation and a heat shield on the turbo, too.
Edit: I found out my production date was 1/2012. So... Dunno.

Just another case of the haves and the have nots . Maybe it is time for an OCCUPY something or other.

My JCW Coupe was built in mid Jan2012 and I have no insulation....and the scoop does allow air through...just no intercooler sitting under it to benefit but it flows air

Ok. Very odd. My S was built about the same time as yours. This seems to be a difference between JCWs and S's. Like Indy said, N14 vs N18 differences again? I wonder.
With the insulation, air flow is probably non-existent. Though it looks like there are two small holes in the scoop.

Do you see a part number on the insulation? My 2007 gets terrible hot and this would definitely help.
