R58 Insulation under hood
I would like to see everyone that reads this thread to contact their dealers. That way the Mini dealers and Mini USA would be aware of the discrepancies. As has been shown here there are three differant ways these cars are being shipped.
No insulation
Insulation
Insulation with heat shield
No insulation

Insulation with heat shield
Mine has build date 03-2012 and has zero under-hood insulation but does have a heatshield around the Turbo. My plastic Hood scoop has 17 holes in it and even that plastic hood scoop gets very very hot after normal driving.
Hi guys,
I sent the link to this thread to my MA today. This was his reply, "I got the link, and I forwarded it to the Regional MINI Manager, who happened to be here at the moment. He did not have an answer off the top of his head but he said he would look into it and get back to me, and then I will get back to you."
I'll post back when I hear something.

To make things complicated, the fuzzy shield I took off is much smaller! My JCW was sold in England, so go figure.
OK so I'm throwing this out there. Could these possibly be related to the location they are shipped? That is warmer climate equals one version and cooler another? I can't seem to find a common denominator. Just a thought. Perhaps we need to list where the coupes reside, and if they have or have not??
"We Just Heard From Munich"
Hello All,
I just got a call from my MA, stating he had a "string of emails going all the way to Munich". The word from BMW/Mini is this: hood insulation is installed only on cars that are ordered with the optional sport stripes. Mini is concerned about damage to the sport stripes, thus the insulation. Having heard this, I am still pursuing part numbers for the insulation, as I would like to protect the paint. Finally an answer, and hats off to Ric at Patrick Mini for the due diligence
We just spoke again and he stressed this, the insulation is only on cars ordered with the factory installed sport stripes. If your stripes are installed at the dealer, then no insulation. He is checking on U.S. part numbers for the insulation as well as the metallic heat shield. Stay tuned.

Yeah, we need to verify if anyone has the factory installed stripes and no insulation. Also, I'm thinking it would be good to have build dates associated with any Minis that have factory stripes and no insulation. Maybe it begins with certain build dates. More importantly for me, I want to be able to order the insulation for mine, mainly to protect the paint.

Thanks for following up on this. I have the stripes (factory installed) and do have the insulation.....
HOWEVER, I dont have that little heat shield patch on my insulation like some of you other guys do.
Very curious about that too......
