How did you mount your Blackvue?

I have a Blackvue with the Power Magic Pro. Trying to decide how to mount it around the rear view mirror. Any thoughts?

Horizontal or Vertical? Or should I opt for on the dash? Not much room in the coupe you know. This is the 2 channel version so there is a rear cam as well.

Just wondering if any one else had done this before?

Blackvue Mounting....

I drive a 2013 S Coupe. Not sure if my mirror is the same as all Mini's or not. I have the rain sensor package and auto dimming feature.

Not a lot of room behind the mirror. Choose left or right. Middle is hard unless I can mount Blackvue vertically or opt for the dash.

Thanks

Blackvue

It is basically a Dash Cam. Will video front and rear while driving. There is an App so with Wifi like when I am in the garage I can watch or view the video. Or take the SD card out and view on computer.

Gets a little more complicated as it will also video activity in Parking Mode. So it will take clips of any movement around your car.

Then you wire it in to your car using the Power Magic Pro and with flip switches you can choose the voltage to turn off so you don't come back to a dead car battery. You can also set the sensitivity and much more via the App.

Here is the website.... http://www.blackvueusa.com/Our-Products.html

Again, just toys and why do I need it, well I don't but just because it is there.

They claim, and I say they claim it will help you in an accident. Say you are driving along a four lane road in town and a car crosses into your lane and hits you. You have video to prove when the other driver says it was your fault you went into his/her lane. So I am told. Does such proof work? I don't have first hand experience with this idea.

Also cool to video Mountain Drives, lots of curves, etc. Some use GoPro cameras. Awesome videos and you can mount GoPro to the Tow Hook for a great view.

You can see much on the website. Also, this website is very good. http://www.blackboxmycar.com Look at some of his videos on You Tube just type in BlackBoxMyCar on You Tube.

The idea is thought provoking anyway. Gimmick? Toys? But then I have to ask why do we choose to add items to our cars after we buy them. Someone else would prefer Racing Lights, Tow Hooks, more Gauges, other Mods.

In the end we have to have our toys. Because they are fun.

Here's a few accidents caught on a GoPro here in Anchorage...

Unfortunately, I did not have the camera running with I T-boned a '13 VW Golf that ran a stop sign with my '08 Forester Sports XT. Both cars totaled and no one hurt. Thankfully, there was no question that she was at fault.

Incredible

Always amazed what these things will catch. And I have heard amazingly good things about GoPro.

While I don't want to be in an accident it would be cool to film one. I can see life could be interesting with the camera rolling. Who knows what you will see or film.

Almost Done

Got the Blackvue mounted directly under the mirror as the best spot. If you choose high up either left or right it would be sticking to those little black dots on the window. Wide angle lens so it really does not matter, just preference and taste.

Hardly noticeable, considering I have the auto wipers and all lots going on around the rear view mirror. Also have auto dimming mirrors. Totally different in the wife's Countryman. I guess the mirror is unique to the Coupe.

Got the power magic pro wired into the fuse box on the passenger side. Found always on fuse and one that cuts off say after 30 minutes. Ground you see if you drop the glove box on the right - there is a screw.

Used a coat hanger to gentle pull the wires through from the drivers side to the passenger side behind the console. All hidden now and looks great.

Box mounted to right of steering low.

Still need to run the cable for the rear dash cam. After all this work makes me think real hard about the effort for the remote radar detector. But so be it. I don't speed and often set cruise at the speed limit. Yes, waste of money but I just like to know who is watching me. Strange, but that is me.

I have done so many Amateur Radio installs that running wires is easy. The idea is easy, but it still takes time and can't rush a good job.

do you have a better photo of the fuse box and which one you used? I'm planning to do a similar install w/my OJO Dash Cam and want a clean, hardwired setup.

Thanks again!

Fuses

Well, I used several. Blackvue and MagicPro uses one, Passport Radar uses one and I think one other device.

Here is how I mounted the remote head for the Amateur Radio. It connects under the seat rail. Like two fingers. No holes drilled, I could pull everything out of the car and you would not know it had been there!

Just rear of car with antenna on trunk lid - low profile and black.

Magic Power Pro as I can set the timers and voltage for running Blackvue and not come back to a dead battery.

Here is the console notice the radar in ashtray and amateur radio. Sweet! The antenna for the radar is in the rear dash between the seats, good level shot out the windshield and it works great!!! Can't really even see it. Held in place with velcro.

Best of luck

Best of luck with the wiring, not hard, trial and error until you get one that either stays on all the time or cuts off. I just wrapped the wire around one of the fuse ends. With cover on you can't tell I was in there.

Love the Blackvue and Passport in the smokers ashtray. Funny flat spot on the ashtray that is perfect for the display with a square piece of velcro.

You will love the dash cam. Hope you catch some interesting videos but are not part of one. I enjoy watching many drives in the mountains front or rear. I can't compare to GoPro but nice still the same.

Cheers,

LOVE MY GOPRO! i took it with me snowboarding in colorado and got a few wipeouts with it. Quality is great and the size is excellent. Also use it in my mini for drives and meetups.

Here's example from the M.U.M meetup (MN United Minis) a few weeks back
