R58 JCW R58/59 Fixed Wing Spoiler
JCW R58/59 Fixed Wing Spoiler
Anyone have some info on this accessory? Just took delivery on my first MINI, a Coupe S in British Racing Green II and black roof.
I'm seriously considering getting this spoiler, but had some concerns about the install. The MINI online store doesn't list it, and was wondering if anyone had one, and whether or not their dealer painted and installed it.
If not, does anyone know what is involved with removing the active one and installing the static one?
TIA
(Great site BTW)

This is a question many people are asking. I saw it offered in a JCW parts catalog in a local dealership but have only see it in person once and that was in Philly for MINI Takes The States.
I think your best bet is to call up (or visit) your dealer and ask them about it.

We've sold a couple, and it looks freakin COOL

It does need to be painted as it only comes in primer. Please call us if you have questions and we'll help you out.

Thanks for the input!
As an aside, I did see one in person when I picked up my Coupe. At the time, the MA didn't know what model it was for (it was sitting on a counter)and we both (incorrectly) thought it was a rear roof mounted spoiler of some sort (MA was new). After seeing a picture of it on Outmotoring, I'm positive that's what it was now. Being a newb to MINI's (much less the Coupe), I didn't know any better (in fact, that spoiler is what drove me to find this site). It was still primered, and had a bunch of posts/threaded shafts across the underside.
Hmmm...guess I'll be calling the dealer in the near future.
WMW, thanks for the offer. I may give you call if I can't source it locally (San Diego is a far piece from Atlanta).
Thanks again for the input everyone!

I have this spoiler on my Coupe. The entire pop up spoiler module is removed including the motor and all linkage. The fixed spoiler bolts in where the original spoiler was and the car needs to be programmed by the dealer using the retrofit codes that are provided by MINI. Wayne at Group4 and I both have had them installed according to the MINI installation instructions. I've read this thread and am amazed at the mis direction given here. This is now a standard MINI retrofit parts kit with complete retrofit instructions and programming codes. Again, on my Coupe, reprogrammed, outstanding spoiler/wing. Additionally (and to show this is correct) the Coupe R58 Rear Spoiler Retrofit Kit number is 51 62 2 218 750. The instructions are 10 pages long and the retrofit coding is ISTA No. 51 49 000 coding the retrofit with ISSS via the -+SFIX-path.

CHKMINI,
Thanks for the intel, that makes this all make a lot more sense.
WMW,
I'll give you a holler then, when I am ready to order (still working on getting it past the "budgeting committee"
).
Again, thanks to everyone for the inputs. I'm really enjoying this car! I guess the only down side is that my hard cases for my rifles don't fit in the car!
But then again, I don't think I'd be driving "British Betsy" out to the desert floor either...

I love the looks and apparent capabilities of this fixed wing but MAN that's expensive. I can't imagine what the total cost is after purchase, painting and (especially) dealer install.

do you have the 10page guide you could share ? Can you just code out and leave the broken active spoiler in ?

Heard of people just pulling the fuse. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-spoiler.html
Another post i posted has the install PDF https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4043498
You can still get the active R59 spoiler, R58 is dead. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/51627400303/ R59 Roaster active spoiler.
Maybe see if you can find an r58 wrecked and pull that motor.

Didn't know this. Now I wish I would have pulled the one at the Pick Your Part in Ft. Wayne, IN while it was there. Guess if I see another, I will just in case.
Yep, kind of stinks as you can't really swap them from r58 to r59 and vice versa. I think maybe the motor part only is the same.

I am assuming you meant "can't really swap them"
I am hanging on to the assembly off my R59 parts car and going to remove the motor. I think I can fabricate new rods and connectors (using either a set screw or a pin for the connector instead of crimped on)
