I drove the 2012 for about 8 months with the mechanical wing. I love to drive but what I felt was around curves going 35-40mph the traction wasn't as crisp. One the JCW wing was installed I could feel the Coupe hug the ground.
When I purchased the 2014 I had the JCW wing transferred from my 2012 to the 2014. I love the ride.
From the very few Coupe I saw on the road, I have never seen one with a fix wing. May be they are more popular in your part of the country. I have seen Coupes only twice in 7 months since I bought mine. They are not popular here and don't compete much with the popularity of the attractive Scion FRS.

I am very curious about the donut. The space is very tight behind the passenger seat. Do you have a picture to show how it fits?

Even with the seat pulled forward, I cannot figure how it can fit without damaging the seat back and everything around.

As for storing in the trunk, is it just flat on the floor?

You should share pictures.

Why does the parts page for the wing show a bottle of adhesive as an installation component?

The adhesive is used between the down tubes and the spoiler blade when you assemble it prior to mounting it on the hatch. The hatch plate gets silicone sealer to keep water from leaking in.

If installing it yourself you will need to take it to your dealer to get it retrofit coded to eliminate the chime that is programmed to the stock spoiler when it is disabled.

Anyone have a pdf of the install instructions? Curious what I'd be getting into.

I was going to do install myself, but for the life of me I couldn't get tailgate/hatch trim to come out.

Remove all the screws on inner panel from window down. Place a plastic spatula (yeah, don't tell your wife) under the lower interior panel lip and pry until the first plastic fastener releases. From there you can see where the rest of the fasteners are and pry them loose. Panel easily comes off. Easy least!

I am curious.........is there only one motor for the complete assembly and where is it located? The pdf doesn't show.

Yea, think there is only one motor and then it has a rod that links it based on what I have seen.

Can the motor be removed? The rear hatch is damn heavy.

The motor needs to be in the hatch and seems to be on the left side. Anybody ever noticed the warping of the sheet metal behind the tips (right/left) of the mechanical wing when closed? It looks like a pretty weak spot when the hatch has been designed.

It may explain a comment about why somebody made the decision to go with the JCW wing because the mechanical one was freezing

When the JCW wing is installed the motor is taken out with the regular wing.

Dube53 I never noticed the warping. Don't think I had the car for long before i had the regular wing taken off for the JCW wing. On my 2012 I think I had the wing replaced about 9 months after I got the car. On my 2014 the wing was replaced before I took possession of it. With my experience on the wing freezing with my 2012 I wanted to enjoy the new car the way I enjoyed my 2012. The 2012 was a Base Coupe and my 2014 is a Coupe "S" The 2012 was an automatic and my 2014 is a 6 speed manual. I seemed to make the right decisions after the third time with cars. I originally purchased a 2007 R56 which I had all of about 3 months before trading it in for the 2012 because the Coupe was the look and car that I wanted. After owning the 2012 for about 1 1/2 years I realized that I would of liked the "S" over the base. Had a few issues with the base model so I used the opportunity to upgrade and get what I wanted. The major thing was to make sure that it had to be the exact color. Well I got lucky! Like I said 3 times is a charm. The only other thing I am thinking about with my Coupe is to get the JCW Tuning kit. That will give me the go power of the JCW in my Coupe "S".

Flyers is correct. The standard wing is removed as an assembly which includes the motor and all of the mechanism used to raise and lower it.

Thanks Richard. Your Blue Coupe is an eye catcher also. Choices of 3 colors that stand out for me and they are Spice Orange, Black & Blue. Hope your enjoying your Coupe as much as I'm enjoying mine.

For me, Orange and Blue are the best colors for the Coupe. My cars before were white /black/or silver.

My current Fiat 500 is red/red and cream interior and I love it because it looks so much more classy than my Coupe. For sure it is not the same driving experience.

In your signature, I really like that hood stripe on the hatch. I'd like to do that on my next MINI next year. Where did you get that if you don't mind?
